Okay, these boards have been dead dead dead lately -- I blame those damn Red Sox -- so let's try to get a little discourse going here. Simple question: what MRFH reviews have been responsible for you seeing, and enjoying, a film you ordinarily never would have taken a shot on?
Example: for myself, I never would have dreamed of seeing Army of Darkness. My horror tastes run more towards classic monsters and psychological mindscrews than gore-filled slashers, so I'd never seen the first two Evil Dead movies, and I'll admit that the only reason I even vaguely knew of AoD's existence is that it was advertised on the backs of all the comics I bought at the time. Nothing I had any interest in seeing whatsoever. But years later, I begin reading that crazy ol' MRFH website and notice all these awe-filled missives praising AoD to high heaven, and shoot, suddenly I gotta see that sucker. So I did. Haven't looked back since, and I sure am glad I made the effort to check it out.
Anyone else?

American History X. People had been suggesting that one to me for a while, but I was delaying it because it just didn't sound like something I'd like. I decided to watch it when I saw on MRFH that it starred Avery Brooks.
I'm sure there are more but I can't think of any just yet.

Some of these were my first introductions to these films, some were just the final voice in a chorus that made me go out and rent them. So, in varying degrees of responsibility:
About A Boy The Adventures of Buckaroo Banzai Across the Eigth Dimension American Psycho American Psycho II Dead Alive The Doom Generation (DAMN YOOOOUUUUUUU!) Dude, Where's My Car? Escape From L.A. Fletch Galaxy Quest George Lucas In Love How I Got Into College Hudson Hawk The Ladies Man The Man Who Wasn't There Moulin Rouge! Red Corner Repo Man Ringu Run Lola Run Shriek If You Know What I Did Last Friday The 13th Tango & Cash Titan A.E. The Transporter
That's all of them that jumped out at me from the review list. Obviously you guys have really affected my taste in film since I showed up on your doorstep back in '98. Thanks!
Al -does not want to think about how much time sitting on the couch all those films add up to...

- Army of Darkness - Shaun of the Dead - Big Trouble in Little China - High Fidelity
That's all I can think of, but I'm sure there are more. I'm just like you, Lucky One. I stay away from horror flicks, unless they're more comedy than horror (I'll never see the first two Evil Dead/i] films based on my sister's reaction to them). Luckily Army of Darkness wasn't that horror-filled.

The Doom Generation (DAMN YOOOOUUUUUUU!) Hey, if you watched it after reading our review, you only have yourself to blame.

Hey, you made your reviews of TDG pretty enticing--who could pass up a chance to see if a movie can really be that bad?

From Justin's review: From Kyle's review: From Clare's review: From my review: I'm having trouble finding where we started enticing people into seeing it. I really wish people would stop treating that page as a dare.

It's the forbidden fruit effect, only this time the fruit is only strongly warned against instead of forbidden.
Either way, the only reason that page has not yet led to my watching TDG is that I can't find a copy.

MRFH was pretty much responsible for my rental of Army of Darkness as well, though I had seen part of it at work many, many years ago. The rockin' review just helped me make up my mind to rent it one night. Plus, it was close to Halloween and it was in the cheap section of the local Network Video.
Alas, I watched Doom Generation before I had ever heard of MRFH, therefore I do not have them to blame. Generally, when Pooly says a film sucks, I avoid. I've noticed we have similar tastes.

I saw it too, ages before I heard of MRFH. It was free, and I want those two hours of my life back. DON'T WATCH IT. PERIOD.

You know you're just making me want to watch it more.
I never expected it to be "so bad it's funny," but I still want to see what the fuss is about.

Yeah. The more you say "don't see it," the more we want to see it, if only so that we can commiserate with you about its true awfulness.

See, this is where I would normally say "okay fine, I give up, go ahead and check it out", except I could never feel good about that. It's a movie that made me gag to watch it. Its cleverest line is one about a hamster in Richard Gere's cornhole. It uses sandwich condiments as a special effect.
THIS IS A BAD MOVIE. Go watch Battlefield Earth if you want FUN bad. What you have to understand is that TDG is a movie that stays with you, and not in a good way.
...
I'm just enticing you more, aren't I?
