Yeah, well the labor induction last Thursday (October 30th) went pretty well, and after getting to the hospital at 5:45 in the morning, we had her at 3:08 in the afternoon. Eight pounds, one ounce, twenty-one inches long. And she really did turn out to be a girl (god bless sonograms and the people who can read them well), saving daddy from some frantic painting and tearing down of wallpaper before mom and baby got home.
I must say, the whole parenting a very, very small child thing is nowhere near as difficult as some would make it out to be. We got about no sleep the first two days she was home, which is no worse than my partying days of old. Now the sleep schedule is a bit better - last night we were up maybe three times - and she really just likes to eat and sleep. Mom's pretty tore up, though (I won't describe how - use your imagination and it's probably accurate), so most of the time I've been home taking care of the house. Anyway, I'm happier than a squirrel in a nut factory, and I definately recommend the procedure to all. As long as you're emotionally ready. And mentally balanced. We don't need to be breeding any more psychos as it is.

However, the atomic poops started coming in yesterday...filling my soul (and nose) with fear...

Let me be the first to offer my heartiest congratulations to you both, Jay. My best wishes to you all Oh, and I understand there's a procedure you can have which robs you of your sense of smell permanently; you might want to consider it - Rich

Congrats!!!!!
Trust me, as the aunt to two two-year-olds, those words about it not being too hard will come back to haunt you. She's easy now because she's always in one place. Wait until she's mobile!
So do we get a name? (At least the first and middle?) Although I can certainly understand if you're trying to keep her name off the net.
Congrats again!

Gotta throw in my heartiest congratulations as well! Bless you and the whole family, I hope you always enjoy your role as parents!
A guy in our office just had HIS first baby last week, too (Oct 29), and he called into our office meeting Friday. We all congratulated him, and he went on to say that the first day or two home had been rough, but that he was sure it would get easier from there.
Every father in the room busted out laughing. It was absolutely hilarious. The laughter went on for a good five minutes.
So yes, I'm sure the "this is easy!" comment may haunt you, but I hope that while it may not be easy, it's at least fun and full of joy.

As for the name, we decided on Leilani. I shorten it up to Leila - as in Layla - because I'm all about the Eric Clapton stuff from the '70's. Thanks to all for the congrats, and I'm sure that my "this sure is easy" remark will certainly come back to haunt me. Had my first day back from work today, and my new perspective on life kinda showed me how much my job sucks. I may be looking for something else pretty soon, or at least doing something with my off time that can get my mind completely off of work. Anybody hiring art history majors in the panhandle of Florida? Anybody? Anybody?

I hear a bid from McDonalds in the back!!! Anyone else? I'd really rather have Subway...

What an incredibly cool name. Distinctive and not wierd. You and your wife's coolness factor just went up 10 points in my book.

So Jay, how are those first couple of weeks going?

Thus far, so good. She's two days shy of two weeks old, and I actually got a full six hours of sleep last night. However, Wifey didn't, though she gets to cat nap the day away with our young'un while I'm at work. Which I suppose evens things out in the end...
Well, I've become quite accomplished at changing diapers, withstanding all manners of atomic poop smells, and seeing my wife naked more than ever before, and it being totally non-sexual (since she's breastfeeding). I'll try to insert a picture later in the week, when I have the digital camera handy. But needless to say, she is cuter than a button, and staying awake and alert and sociable a little more often. But all is good in babyland!!!
