Well, after being a visitor of Mutant Reviewers for, my, I don't know, at least three years now, I finally decided to dive in and post something. Lissa, I guess, is to blame.
I just had to take a moment to thank Lissa so completely for her review of Once. I've just finished watching it, and it was truly an amazing movie. And the music...I just ordered the soundtrack. It was...well, as the main character would quite readily quip, "Brilliant."
I was once a struggling musician, and what made this movie even more special was how well they portrayed the reality of musicians, of every aspect of the process, especially the studio session. I cracked a big smile when the producer said it was time for the "car test." Yup. Been through a few of those.
Granted, poetic license and time constrants may have the "band" come together a little fast and easy, but the powerful pull of the movie easily allowed that and just let you flow with it, almost as if that weekend studio moment was charmed.
So, just a tip of the hat at Lissa's way...I would likely have never heard of this movie and never had this 90 minutes of joy if not for her recommendation.
Brilliant.
Oh. And I'd be remiss if I didn't mention that I've had the pleasure of seeing several other movies that otherwise would have slipped my radar if not for Mutant Reviewers, so I'll run a finger across the brim of my hat to the rest of you as well. Many years as a Mutant visitor, and I have to say, I've never found a group of people I'm more in-sync with as far as movies go.
Keep it up, all of you.
'Brilliant.'
