We've had a bizarre pair of days at the church this week...
So Sunday morning, we're in the middle of the service, doing a Christmas pageant, when we're informed by a guy in the congregation that the church is on fire. Yup. So we evacuate out into the parking lot, sub-zero weather at the time, as six fire trucks pull up.
The fire wasn't serious -- a box caught (or was lit) in a men's bathroom -- but the fire marshal said we could've lost the building if the fire had spread into the ceiling. We were very lucky to get away with only $15,000 worth of damages.
Then yesterday, due to this freezing weather, pipes burst in both my youth house AND our church's furnace room. I had to wade through an entry way full of spraying pipes (which, by the way, weren't spraying comforting, warm water, but instead the sort of stuff penguins are most at home in) to shut the pipes off. Wonderful fine print in my job description.
Today, I figure earthquake, so I'm staying home ;D

On a side note for the fire, since it was in the middle of the pageant, some moms lined their little girls dressed as angels against one of the fire trucks to take pictures. Priceless.

Dear Lord. That sounds like our church a lot of the time... Except it's more of incidents that involve small children. Like a three-year-old as a Wise Man giving Baby Jesus a John Deere tractor toy. You can tell where we live.

I'm glad the fire was caught before anyone was hurt.
Thank you random member of the congregation for your prompt warning.

Interestingly enough, when I was waiting in the hall, dressed in angelic garb (with an inexplicable wreath wrapped around my head) and about to make my grand entrance in our church's Christmas pageant, I was wishing the place would catch on fire. I'll have to work on my aim and timing, obviously.
Seriously, I'm glad everyone's okay and that the damage was kept to a minimum!
