The review is OK, maybe a bit nitpicky, however I have to disagree with you on Deadshot's real target. I believe Batman was the real target since after Batman bounces the bullet that was meant for Gordon Deadshot says: "So predictable, I knew I'd flush you out if I went after the lieutenant", with an expression and tone of voice that at least to me shows this was his true target. Also, in regards to his hatred of firearms, I'd like to refer you to "Batman Begins" where he was planning to kill his parents' killer with a gun, so despite his hatred he would have used it. Even though it makes no relevance to this discussion, I believe in the first episode of Batman of the Future or Batman Beyond, an aged Batman suffering from a heart attack (probably) uses a gun. Also, in the Batman: The animated series episode "The underdwellers" it is shown that he had a gun collection, granted they were antiques, but technically still guns. I really enjoyed the shorts, especially due to the variety of styles and visions. I'd say it's worth a view to any and all Batman fans, and especially to those who like to draw or cartoons in general

Also, in regards to his hatred of firearms, I'd like to refer you to "Batman Begins" where he was planning to kill his parents' killer with a gun, so despite his hatred he would have used it. Oh, sure... believe me, I know about Batman's prior association with guns. Hell, in his earliest appearances he carried a gun and mowed down criminals. But the overall character of Batman as it's been established over the last six decades is of a character who hates guns. That doesn't mean he will never, ever use them for any purpose, but he still despises them. In regard to the particular scene you're talking about from Begins, it was influenced by Year Two, a comic story set after (natch) Year One. In the story, Batman is forced to work with Joe Chill against a common foe, but plans to kill him afterward using the same gun Chill used to kill the Waynes. Batman struggles with the decision on whether he can go through with it throughout the entire story, but ultimately the decision is taken out of his hands. At the end of the story he seals the gun up in the foundation of a building, concluding that he will not use guns in his war on crime. In the example you cited from Begins, think of the outcome: Rachel told Bruce his parents would be ashamed of him, and she was right. He throws the gun away in disgust at himself. I agree with you, Storm, that Batman will use guns in extreme circumstances... not to kill people (never), but for instance, when he uses one to detonate plastic explosives in The Dark Knight Returns. What I was commenting on in the review wasn't whether he would use one if necessary, it was the unbelievable fascination the director of that short gave him. Read that quote over again... that's a budding NRA member. Batman -- my Batman, anyway -- hates the damn things. They're to be used reluctantly in extreme circumstances, not fawned over. (As for The Underdwellers, the creators of the animated series have admitted it was the worst episode of the entire series, so I'm not sure I would use that as evidence. ) Glad you enjoyed the movie, though... I did too, just not as much as I'd expected. -D

I agree with Drew's take on Gotham Knight (even most of the specific points). It all evens out to a solid three. Even though it makes no relevance to this discussion, I believe in the first episode of Batman of the Future or Batman Beyond, an aged Batman suffering from a heart attack (probably) uses a gun. In the first episode of Batman Beyond (or at least how I remember it) an aged Batman is taking on a group of thugs down at The Docks (who have a hostage?), when he has a heart murmur. Meanwhile the last thug has a weapon (pipe? knife?) and is coming at Bats. He (Batman) sees a gun that an earlier thug dropped, and picks it up. The thug begs and pleads, Batman has a moment of hesitation, and then the cops show up. Still suffering from his heart problem, Batman drops the gun in horror at what he almost did, slinks off into the night filled with self disgust, and hangs up his cape for good. He doesn't use the gun, and it is only a desperate act that he picks it up, an act that causes him to retire from crime fighting. I wouldn't use that as part of an argument for saying that he does have a fascination with guns.

Hold your horses Star, I never said he did, I was just pointing out, that despite his loathing of firearms, at least at some point in his life he was tempted either by hate, or desperation as you so succinctly put it, to use one. The fact that he never uses them was never in question, nor was his no-gun policy. I've seen that episode a long time ago and wasn't sure what happened but I remembered him holding the gun; he didn't use it on that occasion because he knew he was safe when the police showed up, otherwise he would have used it. I was just pointing those things out because I thought Drew was a bit too harsh on that particular scene, he's waaaaay more into Batman than I will ever be due to the access to real life comics and a couple of years on me , so I believe him, it was just a nuance. Damn it, I like "The Underdwellers" episode.
