I will give it to you that Turtles in Time is by far the best beat-em-up of all time Nyet, comrade. "X-Men, welcome... to die!" -D

I have nothing against the X-Men arcade game (although, Dazzler? Really?), but I'm not convinced that it tops out versus
"Prehistoric Turtlesaurus!"
and
"Bury my shell at wounded knee"
and, of course
"My toe! My toe! My toe!"

BALLISTIC BARRAGE!!!
Though I was always Nightcrawler. Best special. X-men arcade loses points for making one of my favorite mutants, Storm, the most useless one, and making a useless mutant, Dazzler, a pretty decent fighter.
Bury my shell at wounded knee will always be better. Couldn't have said it better myself.
Another infamous video game challenge came to mind. Playing the Resident Evil games using only the survival knife. There have been entire forums and player's guides dedicated to this challenge. Although I managed to beat all the zombies in Resident Evil II with the knife, I never had the patience to kill the Hunters, Lickers, or any of the bosses with it. I didn't see a point to that; it's just plain masochistic.

Anyone ever finished Elder Scrolls III: Morrowind? It's pretty much my fave computer game of all time, and though I spent hours and hours and hours playing when I was in college, I never came CLOSE to finishing, mostly because I kept getting distracted by the hundreds of side quests and dungeons and missions and strongholds, etc. To actually *finish* that game would be epic, indeed. And guess who just got a new (well, gently used) computer and just installed Morrowind? Though it sucks...after months of playing the most kickass character around, I'm scraping by with an iron longsword and only six spells at the moment...errrk.

While replaying old DOS games, I remembered another challenge I came up with in my days as a lad. Playing a 'Quest' game (Police Quest, Space Quest, King's Quest, Leisure Suit Larry) without ever saving. DUN DUN DUN!
Anyone who played them knows there's no less than a hundred ways to die, including minigames of absolute death and just forgetting to do something in the EXAAAAAAAACT right order. I think I've done it with Police Quest, and if not I can do it now because I've beaten that one 1,480,242 times at least.

I have many quests, but the one that currently burns in my brain is my attempt to catch ALL of the fish in Okami. Because of the beauty of the game and fun playing it I don't mind playing just to play. But in my heart of hearts my REAL purpose now is to get all of those stupid fish. I only lack two or three. As soon as NaNoWriMo is over this is SO on again. *I've beaten the game so many blasted times and still don't have all the fish. And I refuse to look at any FAQs to figure out where these fish are.*

I actually completed my only real quest a few years ago. It was the original "Double Dragon on the NES. I got the game when I was 10, I finally beat it when I was 18. That last freakin level man....... Those bricks that thrust out from the wall... my eternal nemesis.

X-Men arcade and Turtles in time were definitely choice. I always liked Nightcrawler when playing x-men. My all time favorite arcade beat-em-up game has to be The Simpsons. It came out when I was like 11 or 12. You would never think that The simpson family would make a good beat-em-up.. But they did.

I tend to get tired of games long before finishing them. So even finishing a Zelda game (which I love) becomes like a quest just to finish it, when I get to the last few dungeons. For me the ideal length of a game is like 10 hours.

I'm not positive that they count as quests, but I just recently sat back down and unlocked all of the characters in Super Smash Brothers Brawl. With that accomplished, I am now determined to unlock all twenty-four characters and all thirty-six carts in Mario Kat Wii. I demand options!

I finished Eye of the Beholder 1 and 2 without any cheats or walkthroughs.
I never really got on with EotB3 but part of me, even now, wants to get hold of all three and beat them in succession. Especially now that I actually know stuff about Forgotten Realms (which I didn't at that time...Myth Drannor was just some city to me...).
Also, Bards Tale. I finished the first one but could never get hold of BT2 and 3. I'd have liked to have had the chance to beat them too.

Getting everything on Mario Kart Wii was tough -- good luck with the Time Trial of Rainbow Road. I didn't think getting all the characters on Brawl was too hard, but unlocking every single square on the grid is nearly impossible... I got almost all of them, but I refuse to spend any more of my life trying to beat Boss Rush mode on very hard, because it is damn near impossible. In other news, harkening back to the reason I started this thread in the first place- Castlevania III: Dracula's Curse was just released to Virtual Console. &%$# yeah!! -D

Sweet.
The infamous "lost" Castlevania game, Rondo of Blood, has officially been announced for release on the Virtual Console sometime in 2010. One step closer to completing my quest.
And there goes the very last reason anybody had for owning a PSP...

Well, for it to really count, wouldn't you have to beat it on the original platform AND the virtual console? Stokin' the fire...

Oh, PoolMan, curse bless your heart... no. Not if it's the exact same game just ported over.
I'll admit that there's no way I can think of to play Haunted Castle (the arcade Castlevania) or Vampire Killer, so those have to be given up as lost. I'll live.
