Forgive me if this is not the right place to post this (and if it is not, please feel free to relocate it), but having read and thoroughly enjoyed Kaleb's punishment-induced review of "Showgirls", I had three questions:
1. What other reviews on the site have been forced upon the writers as punishment?
2. Justin, what is it in particular about a movie that makes you choose it as a disciplinary device?
The next question, I'll admit, is overly analytical. Like way over. But, I'm weird that way, so:
3. Is the punishment movie designed to simply force an unruly writer to undergo the discomfort of having to watch and review a terrible movie, or are your motives deeper? Is the film you choose for punishment designed to teach the writer something specific?

If they want to tell you why they received a movie as a "punishment review" they can, but I don't think it's right for me to.
I will say that I chose movies that I've experienced personally and found them to be painful to watch yet fun to review. I'm a bi-polar ogre.

As a mutant who has been met one these said punishments, I think I can shed some light.
Essentially, this was a course of action that Justin was driven to as a form of motivation. In effect, because a few of us had been lax in meeting the responsibility of our monthly quota, Justin was forced to take action. I can't say if anyone else has been so punished, but I can say that my Barb Wire review should be up in a matter of days.
Oh and for the record, I had it coming. I'm a bad, bad mutant.

Ok, just to clarify -
I am NOT asking anyone to tell me why someone was punished (as, I agree, that would be inappropriate).
I am simply asking why a certain movie was chosen as punishment.
And I wanted to know which reviews in the archives were of "punishment movies" since I really enjoyed Kaleb's review.
If these are inappropriate questions or if I have offended anyone, then please forgive me.

My guess is that no one is offended.
wdm, look at it like this. "Punishment" assignments are really nothing more than "Opportunities". If a mutant is a bit scarce in the submissions department, it's only right for us to offer him/her a bit of inspiration by assigning a title that, for foul or fair, will definitely give them something to write about! It's a win-win situation for everyone, and it beats casting them into the abyss like we used to do. (Really, all the obligatory abyssal chanting gave me such a sore throat.)
So don't think of Justin as a cruel whip-cracking taskmaster. Think of him as . . . our very own muse. With a whip.
As far as pointing out specific reviews, it's a fairly new concept, so there aren't many. On the other hand, we have been known to inflict movies on each other occasionally just for the fun of it.
