I loved it. Great review. I am now taking a closer look at my borrowed copy of Akira, which I have never watched before. "a dark cloud of radioactive stupid". That is going on my list of stolen insults right now! But, as heartless as this may seem, Bambi NEVER frightened me or bothered me as a child. I was always bored to tears by it and to this day that is the only reason I do not want to watch it. Giant Mouse of Minsk, though...that's not for children. EDIT: May not be important, but I'm anal rententive....I mean great ARTICLE! Not review. 'Cause it's kinda not a review really. Totally an article. A great article. Yes.

It's inclusion was more of a joke than anything else. I also considered going on about Phantom Menace and how you'd almost think the performances were done by live actors.

Some people's psyches are completely destroyed by Bambi. For some reason violent parental deaths never bothered me. But I always loved my own parents. Really. Very much. I have no issues. Moving on... No really I love my mommy and daddy, okay? So the Phantom Menace thing was funny. I would have totally liked that. *sigh* Must not continue to delve into over-tread prequel bashing territory. MUST RESIST....

I say, good show old bean. You actually mentioned a couple I've never heard of. I thought I was hot stuff when it came to obscure cartoons, but it seems that I'm not a bad enough dude to rescue the president, after all.
I found the Persepolis/Eye of the Tiger segment on Youtube, and I fear it may be the greatest thing ever crafted by human hands. Although I was a bit disappointed upon the realization that the actress' loping vernacular was, in all likelihood, a result of English not being her first language, and that she was not deliberately trying to sound retarded for my amusement. Sad.
I'm also going to go ahead and give Persepolis my nomination for the "Thing That I'm Now Curious About That I Never Would've Been The Slightest Bit Interested In Or Even Heard About Otherwise" category.
Speaking of things that end in "polis"; Have you ever seen Metropolis? I've had low-key, back-of-my-head interest in it ever since it came out back around the turn of the millenium. And, as far as I can tell from the trailer, it involves everyone important who has ever had anything to do with manga or anime (except for the Evangelion guy; which is actually a plus for me), and it is groundbreaking and breathtaking and revolutionary and it will melt my face off.
Oh, and I think it may have been better if Ralph Bakshi had never been born. Not trying to be mean or vindictive, I'm just saying that that's an alternate universe I wouldn't mind visiting and maybe even settling down in.

I know I'm not Mike*, but I'll throw in my two cents anyway. Metropolis is a technically sound movie. Very shiny, or at least it was when I saw it a few years ago. Age can be a hard thing on animation, but I remember being impressed by it. Storywise I thought there was too many subplots. There is: A social commentary/uprising plot, a murder mystery, a love story, buddy cop, 'why doesn't daddy love me?', 'robots are people too!', and they cover how the city of Metropolis works. Nothing feels like it gets enough time. That said, I dug how the ending was put together. Thought the song choice was brilliant. Personal opinion: It's a movie you should see at least once. Worth a rental. *or at least not Justin's Mike Persona, since we are all one

Anybody *not* on the staff/a manifestation of Justin's psyche wanna chime in?
I remember owning Metropolis and trying to get through it and that it couldn't hold my interest. Maybe now I'm mature enough to appreciate all the nuances, or maybe I'll watch again and find I was right the first time and it's boring. Either way, a second view is warranted.
