Thank gods, so now within another couple of weeks, maybe I can go out into public without seeing Edward Cullen's face staring out at me from t-shirt racks and notebooks and posters and etc...Read the first book and did not like it at all, and I've been more than saturated with the movie hype, thank you.
The critics seem barely lukewarm, but the fans are going ape...anyone seen it? Anyone plan on seeing it?

I have to confess that I am planning on seeing it in 2 weeks when it comes out in Hungary. I absolutely loathe the books, yet I cannot resist them...It's like crystal meth for me...
And I can't stand Edward Cullen either. I really hope the hype starts dying now.

Not to criticize at all, but if you hated the books and you don't like the actors, why do you still want to see it?
Sorry, I actually know nothing about "Twilight". I had never even heard of it before I saw the trailer this summer. Of course, I guess I'm not really the target audience either.

After all the hype I decided to read the first book. Now, keeping in mind that I'm a little older than the target audience... It was the second laugh out loud book I've read all year. It was, hmm I need to think of something succinct... cracktastic! (we will never mention my using that word again) I'll probably never bother to read the sequels, but, man, did I have a blast with Twilight. So now I really really want to see the movie, but I'm going to wait 'til the hardcore fans thin out. They may not understand if I start cackling -And, yea, I will laugh- and I'm all for people doing and enjoying their own thing and wouldn't want to be That Guy who ruined the theater experience for them. Plus it's a vampire movie, which is like cinematic candy for me. EDIT: Oh, and Roger Ebert's review. Scores major points for the use of "fang job."

I hear you can get those in certain parts of New York. You have to know the password, though.

My new favorite thing about facebook is reading the status updates of my 18 year old brother & cousin & their friends... they are all about how AwEsOmE TWILIGHT is.
And I'm with you Star, I'll totally see this for laughs once the fanchildren clear out. Fun times!

Like Star and coccatino, I did enjoy the book. The first one is funny, but the rest are kind of a waste of time. I begrudgingly read it after hearing all the hype. Unfortunately, the movie is a poor adaptation of a meh book, so don't get your hopes up too much. I actually laughed out loud at the ridiculous camera angles. Especially in the scene where they are in the forest. I can't wait for you guys to see it so I can read your much more articulate opinions on the movie.

I'm blaming this one on peer pressure -- most of the other students in my study group can't wait to see it, so they've all made plans to see it on Friday. I've only been to the movies once in the past 4 months, & that was for High School Musical 3 (similar situation, but surprisingly I did enjoy a couple sequences,) & I miss going to the theater, so why not?
I read all of the books. The first one wasn't good, but everyone kept telling me that they get a lot better, so I continued. The second & third made me want to find Stephanie Meyer & hit her in the skull with some heavy blunt object, & then the fourth actually focused on, you know, vampires & stuff. I almost liked that one. Interestingly, that's the one most of the fans said they abhorred, but I think that if they get that far, it'd make a pretty sick movie.

Never read the books nor do I have any plans to see the movie. But two of my younger female coworkers couldn't stop talking about the movie for weeks. They bought their midnight tickets well ahead of time. And I'm pretty sure they dressed up as well (probably not but they certainly were excited enough to). The following morning they both had the saddest of looks on their faces as apparently way too many liberties were taken in the translation between the book and the silver screen.
But the movie did incredibly well its first weekend ($37 million production; $70 million weekend gross) so we’re sure to go through all of this again within the next two years.
Personally, I’m waiting to have my fanboy moment when HBO finally announces the first season of A Game of Thrones.

I can't wait to see it. I hate vampires and I find the plot ludicrous. It just looks so hilarious.

For those hoping all the hype would end now that the movie's out, I'm sorry to say that I just read that they are going ahead with the sequel. :/

I've heard the book(s?) is (are?) the secret(s?) to eternal happiness and wonderment and you should just sell your house and build a new one out of leatherbound copies.
I must say such a raving fanbase, especially one based mostly of 15 year old girls, does not impress.
And, for the life of me, I can't figure out from the trailers which one is supposed to be the girl. I'm not even joking.
