The long and short of it:
A substitute teacher is working on a computer in a classroom. The computer has no firewall and its virus protection is shareware. Pop ups start appearing. Since middle school students use the computer, they're obviously heavily pornographic. She calls for help from IT. Someone in the faculty finds out. Lawsuit.
So, basically, because the school foiled up, they're trying to get her 40 years in prison. The case was recently thrown out with a 100 dollar fine against the teacher, but it went into court 8 times, being delayed 7 times to await more evidence. You have to pay your lawyer just for showing up, don't you? How far in the hole is she right now? This court case has been going on for four years and I'm sure she had a hell of a time finding steady work during it all.
What's even worse is the DA and Sheriffs wouldn't allow her lawyer to present evidence proving that malware and spyware make pop-ups and can't be controlled on a badly protected system.
