newbie here!
I've never given puzzle games much thought.. I was always swayed by more 'prestigious' story-driven games like Zelda, Metal Gear Solid, Resident Evil etc... but I got a copy of the Orange Box and I LOOOOVE Portal!
I've always thought of puzzle games as like.... tetris, fun for a bit, but not much more, but I am an elitist snob no longer. Are there any puzzle game buffs out there?
What are some good recommendations?

I'm not a puzzle game expert, but they're my wife's bread and butter. Her go-to game is Wario's Woods (originally for the NES, available on the Wii's Virtual Console), along with Bubble Bobble, which is more of a puzzle/action hybrid. She's a big fan of Dr. Mario too.
If you're looking for more recent games, Steven Spielberg released a game on the Wii called Boom Blox that's more fun than it has any right to be.

I recently tried the budget priced and totally fun World of Goo on PC. It's a cartoony physics simulator where you build bridges out of different little balls of Goo, complete with dark sense of humour and bizarre anti-commercial messaging. Total fun!
If you happen to like RPGs, and want to try puzzles, why not do both? You can get Puzzle Quest for just about any system, I think. It's a blend of RPG with match-3/Bejeweled style puzzle solving. Want to fight an orc? Play Bejeweled against it. Want to lay siege to a town? Play Bejeweled. There's armour, weaponry, spells, and party members, and hours upon hours of addictive match-3 gaming. It's been out for a while, you can probably get it for nice and cheap, too.
PS: welcome to the board!

Thanks for the welcome poolman! btw u live in north van ehh.. I live in East Vancouver, but I'm a student at Cap! Probably moving to Cap area (either that or lonsdale quay) in January though! Somehow I will have to go cold turkey off my video game addiction when the new semester starts.. I suppose leave my 360 at my parents place haha.
I've heard great things about world of goo.. i will try that one. I've also heard Braid is good on xbox 360.
I really liked this one on Dreamcast called Chu Chu Rocket, it also came out on GBA, i would recommend that.
Would also highly recommend Portal if anyone hasn't tried it.

Wow, a local! Very cool, good luck at Cap U!
Portal was a bit of a divided subject around here. I loved it (as did some others) but I think some folks thought it was over too quick and not worth it.
Feh, I say. FEH!
