Made me remember that there was a time when Michael Keaton was Batman.

Batman and Batman Returns were great movies. And I had forgotten that. Sure, I never really bought in to Jack Nicholson's Joker but Keaton was the perfect Bruce Wayne/Batman combination.

Bale is pretty darn good and I like the current Batman franchise a LOT. I'd say they are generally better films than the Burton ones. But that's not to say that the Burton films weren't awesome.

Unfortunately, the memory of the Burton films are forever marred by the latter two films in that series... with Batman and Robin being one of two films to jointly hold the "Worst Film Ever" title (the other is Ultraviolet *shudder*).

Val Kilmer was ok as Batman but awful as Bruce Wayne. George Clooney was the reverse.

Keaton was perfect in both roles. Bale is only great

If Burton had made more movies, I doubt we'd have needed a Batman Begins at all.

Anyway, thanks for reminding me that there were some good Batman movies before Nolan/Bale got together

I will say that the Nolan films are definitely of a higher production & narrative quality than the Burton ones, & Bale is pretty great. I don't think any other actor in his generation could play Batman or Bruce Wayne as well as he does. I just have a preference Keaton's performance & Burton's style.

I'd probably agree with you about Kilmer & Clooney, but I don't remember Batman Forever or Batman & Robin, which I'm lead to believe is a good thing. The more masochistic side of me wants to watch them just to see how bad they are...
