Yo!
I went to see this movie today. Enjoyed it but wasn't "wowed".
I'll do a reader review tomorrow.

Mmm...yeah, I'm running away screaming from this movie...was flummoxed the first time I saw the teaser trailer (as in, "why on earth are they remaking this?!?")...vaguely intrigued when I saw the extended trailer...wary when I saw some further previews...and upon reading a few reviews, now I won't go near it with a ten foot pole. This was one of my father's favorite movies and it's near and dear to me...no need to ruin another childhood memory.

Friend: we're gong to see it, tonight, want to come? Me: No... I like the original too much, I know it'll upset me. Husband: the original? this is a remake? Me: ........ you're not serious... Husband: really, when was this? Friend: it's pretty old, black and white I think Me: .... seriously? you seriously didn't know this was remake? Husband: no Me: I don't even know what to do about this... Husband: don't try anything drastic ::Keanu Reeves voice:: I know Kung Fu!
They are at the movies right now.

I've never seen the original, and I'm sure I'd have a different perspective if I hadn't gone in cold, but I enjoyed it, too.
Like DTH, I was not blown away, but I definitely felt it was worth my money.

I won't even bother with this movie. I'm tired of these War of the Worlds-styled Hollywood computer generated-special effects-driven / sci-fi / action-adventure big box-office / end of the world extravaganzas. I wasn't even interested in them in the 1990's.
I have seen the original and absolutely loved it. A very intelligent, lowkey sci-fi film that managed to rock people's imaginations with very little. These new movies nowadays have so much money and so many hi-tech tools, yet they manage to just copy each other.
