Good review Lissa -- we always need more murderous albinos in our diet, I say. Just because you were wondering out loud in your review and because it actually is a pretty important thing to suss out, I wanted to share an article series by Mark Roberts, who also wrote a great book called Are The Gospels Reliable? that I did a critique of for seminary last semester: Was Jesus Married? A Careful Look at the Real EvidenceHe also did a Da Vinci Code FAQ, because he kept getting so many questions on it. As for reading the Bible and getting a feel for what's really going on "between the lines", so to speak, you'd be absolutely amazed how much can be deduced and learned from what we now know of the culture, the language and the region. A good study Bible or (better yet) a commentary written for a layperson is a decent step away from "this seems dry to me" to "there is an incredible wealth of information, emotion and story going on here". /seminary hat off
