I know some of you on here use Netflix and I thought it might be fun to connect with you about what you're watching, your top ten lists, throw bananas at each other...whatever. My Netflix Friends link: www.netflix.com/BeMyFriend/P5VsaI2MNXXj5FMy6QQx

Yeah, same here. I figured this would be an especially good place to find Netflix friends with similar tastes to mine. I found you. We're now officially buddies.

I don't know how that works, but I am a member of Netflix.
If I find out how, I'll put my link up.

I just signed up to be your NF friend. Sorry I'm kind of late to the party.
We don't have a lot on our queue anymore, but my wife and I have rated a whole bunch of movies.
I noticed that you had "Rogue" at home. Please tell me what you thought of it once you see it.

I noticed that you had "Rogue" at home. Please tell me what you thought of it once you see it. Glad you could join the group. I really liked Rogue, which is saying something for my jaded, former horror movie fan self. I enjoyed the realistic portrayal by the actors, the characters that surprised my stereotypical expectations, the subtle greatness of the score, and that fantastic scenery (wow). I actually watched all of the documentaries on the Making Of. I had my doubts about a killer croc movie, but I was not disappointed. Thanks for the recommendation!

Yeah, you are so right about the music. "Subtle greatness" is a perfect way to describe it.
I forgot to mention it in my review, but music really is outstanding. I actually downloaded the score for $8.99 at amazon.
It has such a uniquely Australian sound and I love the use of unconventional instruments. Michael Giacchino (MI3, Lost, the new Star Trek), my favorite composer, often uses similar techniques.
I thought the music during the scene where Sam Worthington's character is trying to swim quietly across the river was outstanding. I also loved the music when Vartan's character is standing alone, searching the waters. And of course the theme for the croc is truly iconic, almost Jaws-like. It was really brilliant.
I'm so glad you liked the movie. I was just totally blown away by the whole package. I know some people cried foul about one aspect of the story toward the end (I don't want to spoil it for anybody who hasn't seen it, but I think you'll know what I mean), but I actually thought it worked well.
As a whole, I felt that the movie was a lot more hopeful (just listen to the last few uplifting notes in the score before the end credits) than most horror movies, and in that way it slyly defied genre conventions and expectations. I just can't believe that the guy who did Wolf Creek did this movie.

I haven't seen Wolf Creek, but I heard about it in the documentaries. I'm going to add it to my Netflix queue after watching this.

On its own it's a fun movie but pretty much nothing like what actually happened. It's another one of those unfortunate cases where the film was probably inspired by the actual events but took no measures in actually trying to stay true to them.
