Out of curiosity, anybody watching this show? We started watching pretty much by accident (it's on after Scrubs), but so far I have to say I'm really liking it. The humor's definitely in the vein of Scrubs, and apparently also Andy Richter Controls The Universe (never saw it). It basically follows a single dad who's a middle manager for Veridian, a shady chemical engineering company, and his interactions with the people who work for and around him. I dunno, the description doesn't sound very funny, but it is, from the main plots to the hilariously self-serving, out-of-touch Veridian commercials we're shown. Portia DiRossi hits the other end of the spectrum from Lindsay Bluth as Ted's mega-straitlaced boss Veronica, and his potential love interest Laurie is pretty cute. (Potential because Ted doesn't want his daughter getting attached only to have Laurie leave, plus he already used his one "office fling" on Veronica and doesn't want to get a reputation as the company slut.)
I've only seen two episodes so far, but this week proved the show isn't afraid to mine slightly dangerous territory by making the main plot a new motion sensor system Veridian installs to save money- it turns on and off lights, opens doors, starts elevators, etc., just by picking up the light bouncing off a person's skin. The one problem? Er... it doesn't read black people. Veridian's solution, in lieu of a costly replacement of the system? Hiring minimum wage white people to follow every black employee around at all times. Yeeeeah. The lines "Hey, how're you liking your white guy?" and "Man, I got the worst white guy!" have never been so funny.
