So, is anyone else enough of a man-child to care about this?
Here's the deal: It's a 10 webisode animated mini-doodah--5 minutes per ep--culminating in a ten minute finale to be broadcast on Adult Swim.
Contrary to the original animated series, characters actually die; major characters, even. Also, there's up-to-second-tier profanity present. Tee-hee!
And Michael Bell, voice of the original Duke, is now the voice of Cobra Commander. With present-Duke voiced by Steve Blum (the man is everywhere!).
And Dial-Tone is a girl.
Anyway, I'm quite liking it thus far. As a "darkification," it's faring much better than those generally do, and even more surprising is that I don't find the art/animation style to be totally appalling. As a general rule, if it was released in the last fifteen years and didn't originate in Japan, you can give my ticket to someone else. But this... yeah, not too shabby.
My only real complaint is that, in the space of the 10 webisodes, my favorite characters from each faction--Beachhead and Firefly--have only appeared as non-speaking window dressing.
I like balaclavas.
