It was fun. Nothing substantial, but a lot of fun.
Don’t go in expecting a straight adaptation of the comics.
Don’t go in expecting something as serious, or as structured, as the other X-Men movies.
There are some, actually quite a few, logic problems that are dealt with as follows: “Wait, that doesn’t make any se- Oh, ‘splosion!”
In fact, it kind of feels like a game: Logan fights this guy ::exposition cut scene:: Logan does boxing minigame ::another cut scene:: Logan introduces himself to someone and then it turns into a fight. Logan starts fighting the Boss, but gets interrupted by someone and has to fight him later at a higher level ::cut scene:: Twist to discover there is indeed a Big Boss to battle. Aerith dies - oh noes!
The acting’s good (I love you, Ryan Reynolds!), but there’s a bazillion characters so screen time and character development are pretty slim. And of course there’s Hugh Jackman. They could’ve called it “Hugh Jackman Looks Fine in a Pair of Jeans. Damn Fine.” ...There's more to it than that, good actor, screen presence, blah blah blah. But yeah, mighty fine.
Also, it’s nice to see Superman’s parents getting work in other movies (Note: not really the Kents, but they so totally are).
I want to say that I really, really like the opening credit sequence. It’s put together beautifully.
Stay all the way through to the end of the credits, there’s two more clips.
Hmm, some of the above sounds pretty negative doesn’t it? But I don’t feel negative about it at all. Like I said it was fun, and sometimes it’s a lot harder to put into words what gives a movie a likeable vibe than specific pros and cons. It’s good but not great. Enjoyable even. A summer popcorn flick, group or date friendly, probably best seen in a theater, and not a bad way to start off the season. Just relax and go with it.
And, Hugh, if you read this… *does “call me” hand sign*

Spot on, Starropal. Big, loud, and dumb, but not unwelcome. They could’ve called it “Hugh Jackman Looks Fine in a Pair of Jeans. Damn Fine.” I was actually going to go with "Wolverine Surrounded By Explosions: The Movie" but whatevs. Stay all the way through to the end of the credits, there’s two more clips. I must admit, though, both of these clips were pretty disappointing. And there are gonna be some royally ticked-off Deadpool fans.

Also, it’s nice to see Superman’s parents getting work in other movies (Note: not really the Kents, but they so totally are). My friends started joking around and suggested there be a sitcom called "Wolverine and the Kents." It would go something like this: "Martha! The fridge has been sliced open again!" "Oh, Wolvy!" I'd watch that show.

A friend saw this before me and was all "Awful! Dreadful! Worst thing ever!". This put our expectations so very, very low that when it turned out to be a not-too-taxing-fun-movie, we really enjoyed it! So of course, he was hoisted by his own petard There was only one thing which truly bugged me and that was the "Memory Eraser Device"... not only was this a rubbish alteration to Logan's origin but it was kind of completely illogical. SPOILER Stryker loads up his gun with adamantium bullets (well, they should be adamantium "tipped", otherwise the gun wouldn't fire but that's the not-so-inner geek speaking) and thinks "Basically, I'm guessing that if I put enough bullets in to Logan's head, I might be able to kill him but probably won't kill him...I'll just bank on his uber healing factor probably healing his brain round the bullets and he'll forget everything that happened from the opening of the credits.. *shrugs* well, like Captain Simian said, "A stupid plan is better than no plan"." Or rather, that's the subtext I got from that scene

Darth Madler and I made it out to The Hugh Jackman Show yesterday. My thoughts...
Jackman continues to impress me as Wolverine. I really like the interpretation, and he remains very fun in the role.
The Big Gang o' Mutants at the beginning was totally, completely unnecessary. Kind of cool, but completely not required.
Will.I.Am bothered me a lot less than I antcipated.
The Blob bothered me a lot MORE than I anticipated.
The "final" version of Deadpool was ridiculous. STOOPID. I'm not even a Deadpool fan, so it's not like I'm clinging to some other established version of him. It's just that the Deadpool at the end of the movie is utterly, completely, stupid. Never mind that hiding the entirety of two katanas in your arms would PREVENT YOU FROM BENDING YOUR ELBOWS (we had a great laugh at that), he just didn't seem all that intimidating. He actually reminded me of the elements of Darth Maul that I never liked... especially the fact that you take huge pains to introduce your character as seriously interesting and then don't let him say anything. Just... weird. Agh, didn't like him.
I was surprised by how much I liked the relationship between Wolvie and Victor. They look enough alike, and they had good chemistry. But I'll tell you something, I'm the oldest of four boys, and we NEVER walk around calling each other "Brother!" like they always do in the movies. That's right, Klingons, I'm looking at you.
All in all, fun, but very, very hard on the brain.

All in all, fun, but very, very hard on the brain. Deadpool at the end reminded me of a lamer version of Baraka from Mortal Kombat mixed with Cartman's Balrog who has "lots and lots of powers". I really liked the relationship between Logan and Victor. Also digged the Ma and Pa Kent cameos. Don't get me started on the idea of adamantium bullets. Overall a fun but ultimately stupid movie. Star Trek is the real kickoff of the summer season.

You know, if Wolverine and Victor hadn't had great chemistry, the film would have greatly sucked. It hung on their relationship. And fortunately, it worked very well. It does have me thinking what on Earth they are going to do for First Class... The original X-Men were Cyclops, Jean Grey as Marvel Girl, Angel, Iceman and Beast. To remain consistent with their own universe, that automatically precludes Angel and Iceman from being in it. It would make sense for Storm to join a core group of Beast, Cyclops and Marvel Girl. But they made a big deal of introducing Emma Frost... Now unless this was a famous "X-Men Irrelevant Cameo" or X-IC then she'll be in First Class. If she's on the core team, they are unlikely to have more than 2 girls of 5 X-Men, I think. So, the question is, if we consider Cyclops and Jean as 99% in the prequel, and Beast a very high probability, who are the other two likely suspects (if we work on the premise of a 5 person "first class")?

The best part of the movie was the beginning. I find this is a new theme in movies. Many people say the beginning part of Watchmen and the first big battle in Star Trek are the highlights of the movie (even if they hated the movie.)
It's almost like we've come full circle to the days of Saturday Morning Cartoons, which worked their asses off on the intro and then didn't have half the animation budget in the regular show (see Thundercats, which had 1/20 the animation budget as its intro.)
The difference is that ironically, while we're too lazy to change the channel most of the time, we're not so lazy as to continue sitting in a movie we don't like. Weird, eh? So, I'm hoping someone realizes this fad doesn't work.
Having said that I really enjoyed Wolverine, even enough to see it twice because I've seen every X-men film twice.
Really I don't have many complaints about it except Emma Frost wore far too many clothes and wasn't the blond bombshell she used to be. I didn't even recognize her the first time around, even with the diamond skin. That's mostly because in the comics she almost always forgot she had that power when it would be most useful and was mostly a telepath, and a powerful one.

The opening credits were a highlight for me. Same with Watchmen. Watchmen is a definite contender for best opening credits.

To be fair, she's only had the diamond power since 2001. And then only because Grant Morrison wanted to use Colossus, but he was already dead. Haven't seen it yet, but this "Ma and Pa Kent" people are talking about- are they identified as James and Heather Hudson, or no? -D

Oh, so their son was Rock Hudson, eh? Explains the bad-ass leather jacket and why they talk about him in the past tense.
