It's this bizarre and dark yet fascinating 1985 German horror fantasy thriller drama from co-writer and director Roland Emmerich which is his debut movie before moving to Hollywood, it's got a small cult following. The story is about a 9 year old named Joey who's dad just died and he gains telekinetic/psychic powers that makes his toys come to life and even communicate with his dad on a toy phone. The other kids at school think he's crazy for they don't believe in his secret as he feels like an outcast, one day he finds a creepy ventriloquist dummy in a old abanoned mansion that belong to a famous magician once. He takes it home with him as later he finds out it is possessed by a demon with powers like Joey's only stronger as it terrorizes him and even threatens his mother, friends, enemies, teacher and city with demons from another dimension as the boy must stop it. It's a fascinating movie about the power of your heart, imagination and of course learning about coping with death including the loss of a loved one. The film is influenced by the movies of George Lucas, the stories of the Grimms Brothers, The Twilight Zone TV Show and 1945's "Dead of Night". It's also emotional and quite dark as well, the film can be viewed on youtube with both the heavily edited, cut and altered U.S. 1986 theatrical version "Making Contact" which came out here in America from "New World Pictures" and of course the uncut extended German version "Joey" with subtitles: www.youtube.com/user/johnlindsey289
