Everyone is a unique individual in some way, shape, or form. But probably one of the ways people differ most, is in their sense of humor. Take my family, for instance: my Dad has a dry, very English sense of humor. My Mom is an overly-seriously person who takes delight only in the most literal of jokes (for the most part). My older brother delights in subtle puns and obscure allusions and references. My younger brother delights in "blossoming" also known, more colloquially, as a "fart".
And me? Well, I like the sense of humor of Waking Ned Divine, while the entire rest of my family simply went, "...meh".
WND is about a small village: in this village, a man, Jackie O'Shea learns that one of the townspeople have won the jackpot (although the actual amount is uncertain, they know it is big). This man, his friend, Michael, and his wife, Annie, all seek to find just who is the winner, through all sorts of sneaky shenanigans of the Irish village type. After a process of elimination, they find that the only one left has been, well, eliminated too: Ned Divine won the jackpot, but he is found dead by a heart attack at the revelation of just HOW much money he won (not telling!) Jackie and Michael scheme to find a way to inherit the loot, so that the money doesn't end up simply not being claimed by anyone at all (Ned had no more family).
There are some bits in the movie I found very unique. The relationship between "Pig" and Maggie is so bizarre, it's enjoyable. But the character in this movie that really steals the show is the evil, greedy wheelchair lady: everything she says is hilarious to me. She's in the same vein as "Sally" the junkyard lady from Mystery Men, or that lady from "Throw Mama Off The Train". You know the type.
Now, this brand of humor...I honestly can't speak for everyone. All I know is that I enjoyed it immensely! Also, the climax of the movie is something you wouldn't expect: all I'm going to say is that towards the end of the movie, it involves "the phone booth", and I found myself almost rolling on the floor laughing when I saw it. You'll know what I mean when you see it...
You are going to see it, riiiiiiight?
