Wow. Disney purchases Marvel. That's some big freakin' moolah in that deal! And, given enough time, you might be able to visit Disneyland and meet your favourite heroes! What do you think? Likely to change anything, or business as usual for Marvel?

Triple post! Bad karma! I like Penny Arcade's take on the situation. Seriously though, am I the only one weirded out by this? I find it really, really creepy when large corporations secure intellectual properties (massively popular ones, at that) just by buying them.

When my husband told me day before yesterday I thought my stomach was going to sink through the floor.

On the one hand, I can't say I noticed any big difference a few years ago when Time Warner bought DC, save that Peter David did a joke with Wonder Girl complaining about AOL's slow dial-up service until Arrowette rushed in to shut her up. On the other, it's Disney, so... who knows. They may want to be more hands on.

I agree, Lucky. It seems that Disney just wants to snatch the profits from the movies considering their only hope for live action in years, Pirates of the Caribbean, got completely crushed by superhero movies like Iron Man in terms of moola earned. However, at the same time, this is Disney we're talking about. If they owned Star Wars, we'd be on Star Wars Direct to Video Sequel 18 by now. Looks like Stewie is the only one who can help us.

Heh. Good one, Rett. xkcd also found inspiration in the topic of this thread. I love xkcd even more than Snickers, and it looks really great on my Eizo. P.S.: I'm piggybacking on my own post here because I dare not sully the new forum, but -- Film Club? Yay! I'm excited!
