Totally stealing this idea from another board:
Do you ever find that when you're in a certain mood you turn to a particular genre or author? What about "comfort reads," your book equivalent of curling up in a comfy blanket?
As far as mood reading goes, for me it's more the time of year. Spring and summer is the time for comedy, lighter fantasy, YA, adventure, or grisly dark mysteries. Autumn and winter are horror, lighter mystery, straight fantasy, poetry, classics, historic fiction, and a lot of re-reading happens. Nonfiction happens all year round. I like to mix it up, if I don't I usually burn out on that author or type of book pretty quick.
The really hot days of summer is when I read books set in snowy locales or Christmas, regardless of genre. What can I say? The heat kills me, and if I must resort to self made mind games so be it.
For comfort reads, the Scarlet Pimpernel books, Jane Austen (with the exception of Emma), and Edgar Allen Poe. I know exactly what I'm getting and they don't get old for me.
So what about you?

I mostly read when I'm quiet and relaxed, so that's more or less always the same mood. Seasons? Hmm... no. You would expect I adhered to some rules, if not quite so elaborate ones as yours, but I can't think of any. Except, when I want to switch off my brain, I sometimes skim Tom Clancy. Like an alternative to watching TV when it doesn't matter if something's on.
Comfort reads? Could be anything I've already read a bazillion times. Like you say, you know what you get.
