I could see where they're considered prog rock... I think of Yes, Genesis etc, but the epic songs that Rush puts out could also qualify.
To quote wiki, "Several of the leading bands in the prog-metal genre — Dream Theater (U.S.), Ayreon (Netherlands), Opeth (Sweden), Fates Warning (U.S.) and Queensrÿche (U.S.) — cite pioneer progressive hard-rockers Rush as a primary influence".
I've got Queensrÿche in heavy rotation, since Empire is such an excellent workout album... does this mean that I still embrace prog rock??? :-)
