Just perusing the Birthday banner at the bottom of the main page and noticed that today is the day that Al turns 10!
No, wait. He's probably older.
Also, former Mutant Clare celebrates her birthday today, and even though I know which one it is, I shan't announce it, for a desire for unbroken legs is MY only Christmas wish this year.

Happy Birthday! Clare, you're my hero.
Mister Poolman, sometime you can explain to us that mysterious grammatical difference between 'will' and 'shall' that only Canadians and Brits (and possibly Australians, but I don't know any) seem able to understand. Mom and I were trying to figure out how to explain this to our ESL class of Spanish speakers and coming up short. We didn't really want to explain it as "It's a way to make yourself sound like an idiot in a bad fantasy film, along with refusing to use contractions."
There's one Punjabi speaker from India in the class too. I tried to figure out how to say "Hello" to her for class tonight, but apparently you can't even greet someone in this very ancient language (roots in Persian and Urdu) without knowing their religion. The web site I looked at had greetings for Hindus, Sikhs and Muslims. I suppose Christian and Buddhist Punjabi speakers have to improvise when saying Hello.
And the alphabet in Punjabi is insane. They have about four different letters each for different "d" and "t/th" sounds. I wish there were classes in it, but in Yakima it's never going to happen...
Wow. That really was apropos of nothing. Have a great day, Al and Clare!

I dunno if it's just a Connecticut law or the whole US of A , but no car rentals until I become Quarter-Century Man. It's a very special time in every young man's life.

No, it's all throughout the US, I think. Or it is in Jersey, anyway. And yeah, happy b-day to both of you! Go out and have a bourbon, a scotch, and a beer on me!* Note: Drew is not actually fiscally responsible for any bar tabs resulting from such a suggestion, though he does highly recommend it.Hope you both had great ones! -D

Happy birthday! A second round of beers for everyone!
...on Drew...
The law is 18, but the few places that rent below 25 charge an extra $25-30/day for the privelege. Blatant age discrinination that no one cares about.
