Wow, y'know I feel bad because I was just waiting for something like this to happen but hey, he died doing what he loved. Godspeed Croc Hunter.

Yeah considering his line of work, it was preety much inevitable, but I would have thought it would happen when he would be older and his reflexes would soften up, and maybe a croc would get him, not an over-hostile stingray. But still he has left quite the heritage, maybe hundreds of episodes, 2 kids, a zoo, millions of fans, he will not be forgoten.

I was just coming on here to post this... beat me to it.
Dude. Bummer. Nice guy. My grandfather was speared through the leg by a stingray when he was 8 and was nearly dragged out to the ocean -- they can be pretty dangerous. But as you said, at least he left a really nice legacy.

This is really sad. On behalf of all the world's other snake botherers, I offer my condolences, and gratitude for his conservation work.

My brother was a big fan. He loves Animal Planet. What a bummer.

You know, as much as we all liked to poke fun at his enthusiasm and his expressions (Crikey!), I don't think I ever heard anyone say anything truly negative about the guy; and in showbiz, that's really saying something. Godspeed, Steve Irwin... may you be wrestling God's own crocodiles as we speak.

It sorta reminds me of the same overall feeling when Mr. Rogers died -- as you said, some people we might tease, but we respect for their efforts and overall niceness.

I used to make fun of Steve Irwin all the time, but it was always followed with a sighed "Man, I love that show." He was the most entertaining wildlife host I've ever watched, and he was amazing. Dude was fearless, and got to do work that he loved. Would that we were all so lucky.
Steve Irwin was a truly class act, an expert whose effusive love for conservation led to superstardom of a sort and taught millions of people a little bit about the wonder of nature. That's one hell of a legacy.
