Holy Bruce! It's Evil Dead: The Musical!
I just got back from seeing this in NYC on Monday, and, fellow mutants and mini-mutants, please do yourselves a favor and do *whatever* you have to to make it to this show.
Some brilliant nutjob took the plots of Evil Dead 1+2, the best bits of Army of Darkness, and the dance choreographer from the musical episode of Buffy: The Vampire Slayer and created one of the coolest theater experiences I've had in years. It's very clearly the product of people who really love with these films, blemishes and all, and the whole show -actors, sets, everything- exudes an indescribable "can-you-believe-we-made-a-musical-out-of-Evil-Dead"-ness. The songs (small sample: "Do the Necronomicon", "All the Men in My Life [Keep Getting Killed by Candarian Demons]", "What the @#!& Was That?") are hysterically inspired*, and the tone is campy and self-referential without ever feeling like it's talking down to the material.
It's running off-Broadway through the beginning of March, and tickets are cheap. We bought ours a week before the show and got center-stage third row seats for $40 each. The first three rows are also in the 'Splatter Zone', where I can trust you can fill in the blanks (They hand out ponchos!). This post probably reads rather disjointedly, but I've been crowing about this thing for three days now, and figured if anyone was going to appreciate it, it'd be you guys. Beg, borrow, or steal to get to New York and see this thing!

* I found a bootleg of the soundtrack online through isohunt.com, though it's low quality and an older version of the show with a different ending (and a new song!). The official soundtrack ought to be available at the end of February. I've preordered mine!
