In a continuing effort to always live in the past, I've recently started collecting Mega Force vehicles via eBay. It's pathetic fun!
For those not familiar, Mega Force was a rather-awesome and very short-lived line of military vehicles released for one series by Kenner back in 1989. I had a few of said vehicles way back when, all of which I have re-acquired as of this posting; the rest I'm collecting just because I'm a completist nut and they look cool.
Anyway, today marked the arrival of the belle of the ball: A brand-spanking MIB Triax Goliath, shipped all the way fromsunny rainy weather-having Messina, Italy. I won it for less than I expected to pay, yet still more than I'm willing to admit to paying.
Somewhat unfortunately though, despite the fact that many happy nerd noises were made upon my opening of the parcel--moreso upon the discovery that the Goliath frightens cats without actually moving or doing anything--it seems that the Goliath is not quite what I thought it was.
Of late, I've been vexed by memories of myself playing with what I seem to recall as being an immense tank of some sort (like the Goliath), with a raisey-uppey gimmick (like the Goliath), and I can even say for a quasi-fact that it was on or about 1989 when I had it (again, Goliath).
The main thing that makes me think that the Goliath and 1989 Mystery Toy are not one in the same is that childhood relics, when viewed at an older age, do not typically seem bigger than they originally were. I'd wager the average eight year-old could practically ride this thing, and I don't remember the toy I'm thinking of as having such impressive girth.
So I'm asking for help from any children of the 80s who think they're bad enough to rescue the president: Name me something that has pretty much all of the characteristics of the Goliath, but isn't, and if it turns out to be the thing I was thinking of, you'll have the satisfaction of knowing that you helped me sharpen up an annoying fuzzy memory, even though I myself acknowledge that doing so will not have served any greater purpose. Hooray!
