Thanks to Al's awesome little gag about "Lawful Good" types not watching the Hitler's Xbox video, I started thinking about D&D Alignment types. For those not in the know, there's a good explanation at Wikipedia, but basically you pick whether you're law abiding (Lawful, Neutral, or Chaotic) and whether you're Good, Neutral, or Evil. So what I'm wondering is... what's your Alignment in real life, and if you're of the roleplaying bent, what Alignment do you most enjoy playing? In real life, I tend towards Neutral Good (eg. Spider-Man, Luke Skywalker). I generally uphold the law, and squidge it a bit here or there when I need to, but I tend to have a pretty decent moral center. I tend to game as a Chaotic Good (eg. Robin Hood, Batman, Han Solo), because although my morals still tend to show through, I enjoy playing faster with the law (knowing there's no real consequence). So, who's as big a nerd as me and wants to share?

I tend to be in the same boat as you, Pooly, both in real life and when I played oh so long ago,. I always was kind of fascinated with the idea of Chaotic Neutral, but never got to play one. Maybe it's for the best that those aspects of my personality never got explored too deeply.

In real life, I guess I'm chaotic good. Just how chaotic changes with how much bureaucratic red tape I had to put up with that day.
I don't play any role playing games which actually require thought be put into an action, so I'm probably chaotic neutral.

I'm a Christian in real life. This means I constantly strive toward Lawful Good while achieving nothing of the kind. Perhaps this is why, when gaming, I tend from Chaotic Neutral toward Evil. > Honestly, though, most games won't even let you achieve anything much worse than Chaotic Neutral and actually play through that way. Those that do won't let you choose subtler, more reasonable evil of the kind most often encountered in real life, but more of the "ridiculously overblown evil overlord" variety. Not that that isn't sometimes fun, too, but even that isn't offered much.

I have never, ever been much into roleplaying games.
But I do like the idea of Chaotic Neutral.
