Cause your going to need it. The following is taken from Variety. Starting the week of Dec. 5, the extended DVD cut of "Fellowship of the Ring" will be released in some 100 or so theaters in the U.S. and in 20 theaters in Canada.
Then, the week of Dec. 12, sequel "Two Towers" will unspool, just a month after having preemed on DVD, leading up to a worldwide Dec. 16 daylong marathon, during which all three films will be shown back-to-back. Exhib guidelines call for a 3 p.m. showing of "Fellowship" followed by a 7 p.m. screening of "Two Towers" and then an 11 p.m. screening of "Return of the King," which will carry over into Dec. 17 -- the day of its global releaseHoly Crap! I will definately be waiting, catheter in hand. *edit* I forgot to mention. That the article also says that these will be the "Extended Editions" of the first two Lord of the Rings. The article can be found here. www.theonering.net/staticnews/1061560805.html

I have already had a buddy invite me to this, and I am SO game if it's available in Vancouver. The thought of doing a ten hour plus LotR marathon... it's even to make a geek splotz. ;D

How would I find a theater that's participating?

I'm sure that the IMDB will have a listing of some sort. I managed to find a showtime for Freddy Vs Jason there... for the shoddy cinema across the border! And... I think I'll be foolish enough to do this. If I can get a ride for when I leave the theater... christ, what would that be, nine hours? o.o

Holy crap, that's awesome! Though, I'll be having my very own LotR EV Marathon the weekend before RotK is released. But oh to be able to Geek out on that kind of EXTREME level. I might just have to get an extra day off of work. If it happens in Austin, that is.

Well, as of late my work computer and this forum seem to be getting along, so as long as that keeps happening, yeah, I'm stayin'.

I'm thinking I should start a "you know you're a nerd when..." thread, but until then:
I have one friend (that is, non-internet friend) who is a LotR fan. He moved to Georgia when I started college, and I'm planning on not only going to see the marathon, but DRIVING TO ATLANTA to see it.
BEAT THAT!
BTW, I'm in Virginia.

I was going to say that the two things I own which get the most use are my computer and my catheter, but that would be a lie.
I use a bucket.

Oh, thank God there's a showing in Austin. I wonder if I have any vacation days left. I don't know if I will. I don't know if I care. Losing pay is worth LotR, right? Right?

Oooh. There's one near us. Not in the theater I would have picked, but.....
And getting tickets will be evil.
As cool as it would be to go, I suspect we're just going to host a LOTR party before ROTK comes out. Besides, that way we can have goodies and bathroom breaks.

About the time ROTK comes out, I should have a one-month old at home, which may well leave my wife out of going to see it, which sucks. I really want to go see it with her, since this is a RARE instance of a film series that we both like very, very much. However, one of the marathons is playing in a Pensacola movie theatre (which isn't even an hour away) and a buddy of mine mentioned going to go see it together a little while ago. So I'm so torn...see full trilogy in big-screened extended-version goodness with said friend...or be true to the love of my life and mother of my children. What to do, what to do?
-Jay-
Of course, I could just go see it twice, once with friend and again with wife...
