A little on the subject, and a little off the subject, is the question of who or what Tom Bombadil is exactly. Something I found that is quite interesting, and I think is also quite true, is the following essay, which brings to us the hypothesis that Bombadil is actually the READER. This theory would also support Jackson in not having Bombadil in the films, since the films are not a book to be read ;D

I remember the trees, but...what's this about clothing? I was sure the hobbits left with the same clotes they entered the forest with. They got swords from the Barrow-Downs.

My only real complaint about the film -- the lack of closure to the Saruman story. After all, he's the main bad guy for the first two films, and he only shows for a few short seconds.
