Eh. It's disappointing, but if it's in the extended DVD, I'll find a way to go on.

Spoiler, maybe:
If ALL of Sauruman's scenes are cut, that means Gandalf won't be kicking his ass on the steps of Orthanc and he won't show up at the end in the Shire. So that means no more Ents, no Palantir, and no sack of the Shire (I already knew that last one, but still...)
I suddenly fear RotK will be gutted.

Well, if it gets cut now, it will be in the EV. RotK is already the longest of the three for the theatrical release. They are under pressure to make the theatrical releases as short as they possible can. Jackson seems like such a perfectionist when it comes to this movie I can't imagine these scene will be lost forever. Everyone will just have to wait until next November to see them.
Though, I really think Saruman should have a good part in this movie, obviously. I'm glad I'm not the one having to make the decisions about what scenes have to go. It's be tough.

SPOILER ALERT:
. . . .
Well, I'm dissapointed, especially since I just finished reading the trilogy last week. The showdown at Orthanc seemed to me a pretty strong part of the story, and I'm quite sad it's not gonna be there. So, how are Merry and Pippin going to get back with the fellowship again?
But then again, if they stayed so true to the book, this movie would be more like a TV Miniseries rather than a film trilogy in length, so I can't say I'm surprised. Especially with the cutting of the scouring of the Shire, which I thought was cool because the whole story ended exactly where it began, at Bag End. I will survive (especially when the extended version comes out).
-Jay-
The Mouth of Sauron - now that's who I want to see. Which could tie up Isengard, since he's intended to rule that tower...

Potential SPOILER ALERT for those who haven't read the books (shame on you)! I thought was cool because the whole story ended exactly where it began, at Bag End. You know, I understand why you'd feel that way, but the way Tolkien ended the whole thing thing with the extra hundred pages of Sam at Bag End chasing after Sharky... it's the one thing story wise that never really sat well with me. It's SO anticlimactic. Yes, it's nice to give Sam the hero's ending, but doesn't that seem a little pointless after making Frodo the hero for the first book and Aragorn for the last two?

Leave SPOILER ALERTS!!!
*cough*Jay*cough*cough*Pooly*cough*
SOME people haven't read RoTK yet. (yes, that would be me. I intend to have it finished before the movie is released. Hopefully.)

Ohhhh, my bad.
Sometimes I have to remind myself that Tolkien is not common knowledge to everyone.
But hey, they kicked it out of the movie anyway...so no harm, right?
Right?
hello??
edit: just gettin' rid of those bloody smileys

While reading the the letter, you'll notice that PJ only says he scrapped the Sarumon sequence. Granted this also means that wormtongue is dead as well, but the letter never says that Gandalf and the others don't return to Isengard and find the Palantir. So there is still hope that part of it is in there.

And then there's the obvious question:
How the Hell do they meet Merry and Pippin??

Hey guys? Remember Tom Bombadil? Wasn't he considered integral to the story at one point? Relax. It'll all get done, you'll love it, we'll rave about it right here on the ol' Mutant Forum. Don't worry.

In other words, it won't be a replay of Matrix Revolutions.

I never thought Tom Bombadil was all that important.
Though Pooly is right.
I will love and gush over it nonetheless.

Come ON! He was that... guy! Who spoke with... trees! And... sang about them! For twelve hundred straight pages! Sure, the plot didn't actually progress, but he had some very cool tie-dyed shirts, and gave the hobbits magical hemp skirts that somehow disappeared in the mines of Moria on a smoke break.

I totally don't remember him speaking to trees, dude. Maybe the other stuff...but not the trees.
