So this weekend I turned to my sweetums and said "Would you like to go see a movie?" I left it open-ended, thinking (actually somewhat hoping) that she would want to go see "Love, Actually". Turns out she was in the mood for something a little out of our norm, so off we went to Tinseltown to see Jon Favreau's latest masterpiece, "Elf". I have to tell you, it was fabulous. You look at the trailer for a movie like this and think that there's a chance that all the good parts of the movie were in the trailer, and that the rest of the movie was filler. That statement is about as far from the truth as you can get in regards to "Elf". It was, without a doubt, one of the funnier movies I've ever seen. Much like "The Santa Clause", this is a movie for both kids and adults. Kids will enjoy the slapstick and belching, while there are some jokes that kids just won't get that will have adults busting a gut with laughter. I can't tell you enough that you should get off your butt and go see this film. Yes, the ending is cliche and somewhat cheesy, but daggone it, I like a little cheese with my Christmas season!
I also enjoyed Elf. I wasn't expecting it to be as funny as it was. Will Farrell surprised me by not overdoing his character. Caan was perfectly cast. The only thing I have to say is that Zooey should stay a brunette. The blonde looked really forced. Either way, she sang beautifully in the movie. The ending was cheesy and over the top, but it was a good cheese. Like....cheddar.
Some people are like Slinkies . . . not really good for anything, but you still can't help but smile when you see one tumble down the stairs.
