Some questions you may be able to answer:
1) The film appears to be set around 1960-1962 based on UK fashions of the time, why does it have mid 1990's English police cars in it? At the airport and near the end of the film. And the airport has mid 1990's small planes on the ground. 2) Why does Jerry Lewis refer to 'love child like in the 60's'? 3) Why does the guy organising the auditions have a book on his desk with 1979 on the cover? 4) Why do the flashbacks to Oliver Platt's childhood still look like the 1950's and use colour home movies too, when it should be around 1932 if he was 5 years old ish and black and white movies? 5) Why do all the press reporters dress like it is the 1940s/early 1950s?

Not having seen this movie, I can only hazard guesses:
1) Economics, or intentional futzing with the time period (a la Bladerunner or Dark City) to appear timeless or mod. 2) Bad writing, or bad meta, or maybe you've got the time period wrong (see #1) 3) The continuity editor is human, too. 4) Maybe you've got the time period wrong (see #1) 5) Lazy costumers / popular iconography (thanks to His Girl Friday and the like)
