I think that's a great idea. I'll admit I was more than a little hesitant when I heard they were doing Lord of the Rings movies. However, after the excellent job Jackson did bringing them to life. He's got my blessing to do Hobbit.

Didn't he say once he was ging to do the Silmarillion? I think that was on the Fellowship EE...maybe he was joking....
Anyway, a new Hobbit sounds like a good idea. I wonder why that article didn't mention Bilbo or Elrond along with Gandalf and Gollum.

Well, we do know for a fact that Jackson's doing the King Kong remake as his next film, so even if The Hobbit was on his plate, it's probably not for some years.
I've heard this as a rumor, confirmed as often as it was denounced, so I have no great hope. Jackson's gotta be burned out on Tolkein after 7 years of working on LOTR, and who could blame him? Plus, there's the logistics of the aging of two primary characters, Bilbo and Gandalf, which wouldn't be an issue if someone else did the film (they'd simply style it in their own vein), but Jackson would be forced to keep to his vision of the series, and he couldn't have different actors portraying characters he's shown (particularly in the Bilbo prologue of FOTR) already.
It will really be bittersweet after this Christmas to not have another LOTR film to look forward to. That really made the last few years fun as it seemed the whole year built up to these monsters. But I suppose our hearts will go on.

Must it ALWAYS come back to Celine Dion?
I'd like to see a Jackson-flavoured The Hobbit too, but I'd have to agree with Justin, it's not a likely thing. It might be possible if they moved now now NOW on it, and could get Sir Ian to play Gandalf (the Grey, woohoo!) one more time. It would indeed be a shame to use a different Bilbo than Ian Holm, but it would be possible. And hey, Gollum's easy to retain.
But J's correct. Next up on the plate is King Kong. That does not bode well for riddles in the dark.

Well, if he jumped right into the Hobbit after King Kong was done it would be more possible. Still using Ian McKellen as Gandalf but I don't think they could get away with Ian Holm. He's a great Bilbo, but they had to do the tape and stretch trick for The Hobbit flash back already. And at most you're looking at 3 years to start filming again, and that's if they started on it right now. Holm is just going to keep getting older. I guess they could give him a "face lift" for the part, but truthfully I see them just getting a younger actor.
I'd love to see it though.

A Hobbit movie? Awesome! It'll be a pretty good movie I bet. Maybe better than the Rings trilogy? Who knows.
