I recently went to see a movie with a group of friends and after pulling Mission Impossible style moves I got into the R rated "The Butterfly Effect" (im only 16 >_< ) and I have to admit, I liked the movie. But what really bugged me that this movie could have been better tenfold if the lead actor (Ashton Kutcher) had been switched with the Darko famed Jake Gyllenhaal. Does anyone agree?

I'm glad Gyllenhaal didn't do it, as he'd then probably get typecast as the dark, troubled teenager dealing with the possibility of time travel. "Butterfly" wasn't *that* similar to " Darko", but close enough that it'd be a dumb career move for Jake.
I thought "Butterfly" was alright, but a little long. After a while the scenarios felt redundant. And unfortunately they could easily do a sequel with absolutely no new setup, just him continually doing minute changes to the already established benchmarks in his life. Or they could do a TV series, even, like "Sliders" meets "Quantum Leap"...

I haven't seen it, but given the acting abilities of both of them, I'd guess you're probably correct.
And although Puggy has a good point about typecasting, the first role I always think of when I think about Jake Gyllenhaal is Homer Hickman in October Sky, who isn't all that troubled.
I also think they could have cast Josh Hartnett, who looks strangely like Ashton Kutcher anyway. (A spelling match between the pair of them would be good fun, too.)
Deep thoughts for a Tuesday morning.

I think Jake gets credited with Donnie Darko all the time and his work in October Sky ignored. That kinda bothers me.
But wait, let me ask this possible SPOILER QUESTION: Did Kutcher's character have the ability to change things in time and just does it or what? No explanation?

*Mild spoilers, but not really*
He has a ton of journals he's kept since he was a kid, so all he has to do is concentrate really hard on one of the journal entries and all of a sudden he's back there, as a little kid or however old he was at the time, and can do things differently than they originally happened.

Eh, if time travel ever made complete sense, we'd be able to do it.
Personally, my favorite mode is via telephone booth.

I prefer methods that cause Michael Biehn to get nekkid.

I'm trying to think what Michael Biehn movie you're referring to, and all I can come up with is..."Clockstoppers"?
