Anyone else see that yet? Anyone else think it was TERRIBLE, especially towards the end?
Just wondering...

Yup, saw it Saturday. Although it wasn't as good as I'd hoped, I kept going from "this is terrible" to "this is kinda fun, though."
The best part was the acting--everyone did such a great job with limited material. Bonus--the ending! Did you think THAT would happen?
Definitely a fluffy popcorn flick, IMHO.

Actually, I knew that there was gonna be a twist ending before hand... and I kind of toyed with the idea that THAT would be it. But then I was like "Eh, no way!" But I guess I should have trusted my intuition, lo.
It probably wasn't as bad as I thought it was, just kind of high expectations and all that. But the last scene just cracked me up. And I kept expecting Johnny to stab the sheriff in the head with those corn fork thingies. Sigh. The first time I actually wished for gratuitous violence in a movie.

Hello again, Sorry, my post was misleading. The big "twist" was definitely not a shocker, but I was pleasantly surprised at the shovel action (does that make sense? I don't want to spoil the movie). I'm with you on the wish for more gratuitous violence. Although I would have been more than happy with some weightlifting scenes at the end... On a side note, did you notice the camera work? The whole mirror/window concept I thought added a nice touch. The level of detail in the movie made me wish they'd gotten a little more creative with the script.

Yeah, when the shovel thing happened, I was like "YEAH! YOU GET 'EM JOHNNY!" I think I actually yelled "YEAH!" at that part, lo. Got a little TOO into the movie. And you know, I didn't feel bad for either of them (I hope you know who I'm talking about when I refer to THEM.)
Anyways, I noticed that there was quite a lot of fancy camera work...but most of the time it just goes NOWHERE. Like the part where she goes to his house, and she sees the "SHOOTER"s written all over the place, and she goes upstairs. There's this BIIIG FAAAAANCY shot that goes around, and all over the place, but really it does NOTHING at all. It just made me laugh. It was like they were trying to cover up their lack-of movie by putting in all these nice shots. Sigh.
But I reeeally liked the part where Johnny thinks he sees the guy in the mirror, and then he attacks it...but then...you know. Haha, that was a good part.

Okay, so we're the only people IN THE WORLD who've seen this movie... Nope, I didn't feel bad, either. To think of all those tender young years spent with a crush on Timothy Hutton (which my mother had to remind me of when he first came on screen sporting ye ol' chest hair!). The thing I liked about the SHOOTER-shots (spoiler ahead: you've been warned) was when it showed Johnny behind the door, it showed that it actually was SHOOT HER. But what was up with having the Sweeney Todd sheriff needlepoint? Is that secret code for big-time nancy boy? I was just impressed he could do it and talk (of course, I think it DID affect his uptake on the conversation). Anyways, if you overlook the Johnny factor, I'll bet it made a great short story! And do you think it really was a secret garden, or just around on the side? Like, how tough could it be to find?

(spoilers again--avert thine eyes!)
Hey PolyesterRage,
Just reading about this movie on another site--there's a debate raging if the housekeeper was real, or another figment of his imagination (given what she said, the state of the house).
Thought it was an interesting angle, just passing it on...

But what was up with having the Sweeney Todd sheriff needlepoint? Sweeny Todd, as in the demon barber of Fleet Street? (rushes to check IMDB)--awesome, it is Len Cariou. I loved his performance as the original Todd, and haven't managed to see him in anything else. I may have to go see this movie just for that.

Did you see it in person? If so, you, Magill, are now my idol (waits for jealousy to abate). But be forewarned, it's a small part. Still, great to see him again!

Ummm, nothing to see here. Move it along!

Continuing the off-topicness.
Well, you can rest easy, because I wasn't quite born yet when Sweeny Todd debuted. I wasn't quite truthful--I haven't exactly seen Cariou as Todd (though I've listened to the original cast recording since 3rd grade or so, thanks to a Sondheim-loving theater-major as a stepmother). My parents did have a VHS copy of Sweeny Todd, but it wasn't the original cast--Anthony was some blond dude instead of Victor Garber (who I also adore), the woman who played Johanna was screechy, and George Hearn was Todd (I hated how he seemed to spend more time screaming than singing).
