I've never heard of "I Am Legend" till I saw your post, read something about the book on Wiki and seems like a really nice idea, worth watching and reading, I'm trying to get hold of the book now, although I doubt I'll find it in my town, or country, or my part of Europe for that matter

It was going to be a Ridley Scott movie for the longest time, and I'm a little disappointed that it's not anymore, but I'm completely psyched that it's made it out of development hell at all.

I've just read the book, well I managed to get hold of the audio-book and it did not disappoint me at all. Now that I've read it I can appreciate the fact that at least in the trailer Neville has his dog with him for a longer period of time at least, I think it will maintain his mental health throughout the movie somewhat better than in the book.
I wonder how the movie will end, and what type of explanation they'll offer for the plague. Cause nowadays germ warfare is far more plausible than in the '50s.

John RamboDefinite gore warning. I'm as desensitized to violence as any other member of the Nintendo generation, but there were still a couple of parts of this trailer that made me go "ew". I mean, I would've assumed that a fifty caliber burst at close range would be unpleasant, but I wouldn't have thought that it would eviscerate the top third of a person's body. In related news: A million imaginary dollars says Rambo dies in this one. Heck, as long as it's imaginary, make it a billion.

I'm so happy Sly is back making movies that actually appear in movie theaters. It makes me feel all warm and squishy.
Either that or I sat in something.

To respond to Hucklebubba's comment about a 50 cal machine gun...
If a human target were to receive a single center-mass hit from a fifty caliber machine gun, it would basically remove almost the entire upper torso of the target . SEVERAL rounds striking a human target would reduce the target to scraps of meat and splintered bone. The scene in the movie is the most accurate portrayal I think anyone will ever see. Mind you, the target receives that level of trauma at up to 1200 yards, so the splatter effect at point-blank range is very real.
That is the reason why the geneva convention prohibits american service members from using a 50 caliber machine gun on people. The weapon is to be used SOLEY on vehicular targets (trucks, tanks, aircraft etc.) The other nations, militias, and terrorist factions that do not follow the geneva convention have free reign to use the weapon as they see fit. It's a pretty god-awful weapon when used in the wrong way.

Wait, someone hasn't posted this trailer yet? I saw it as a preview before Pirates 3 and was so giddy, I embarrassed my sister. The Golden CompassIt looks faithful to the source material! It has Nicole Kidman and Daniel Craig and Sam Elliot and Eva Green and Ian McShane! But I do have to ask, what is it with child actresses named Dakota?

I was really excited until they said they were getting rid of all mention about God or religion for fear of offending people with any 'perceived antireligious messages.' In other words, they wanted a new fantasy trilogy with a built-in fanbase, but didn't like the story so they made up a new one. That irks me.

So sitting them side by side, Narnia and His Dark Materials -- is it more acceptable for Hollywood to dumb/water down the religious/anti-religious messages respectively in order to attain a larger audience, or to stick with the author's true intent? I can see studios getting squeamish about the Narnia message, but other than avoiding controversy (which gets box office dollars), I can't see them too worried about Pullman's anti-God message.

You've gotta stick with the author's intent, but there's more to it than that, also. Important story elements have to remain consistent. That's my issue with all the Watchman scripts floating around the Internet(SPOILER): if you're not gonna blow up New York, don't do the movie. Dreamcatcher had a pretty good film on it's hands for while, too, until they moved away from SK's narrative and turned it into Godzilla versus Rodan. And Demi Moore's big acting turn in the Scarlet Letter? Wonderful until - oops - happy ending! If you can't make it work, then don't do it.

Hmm... interesting. I loved His Dark Materials until it got way too into the anti-religious stuff late in the third book, so I wouldn't really miss that; but at the same time, yeah, if you get rid of it completely, are you really staying true to the author's intent?
Interesting topic. Might merit its own thread, come to think of it.

Just finished reading His Dark Materials, so I have to say: WHAT? The anti-religion message is so prevalent in the books, how could they possibly leave it out? Grr I say! Grr!

If a human target were to receive a single center-mass hit from a fifty caliber machine gun, it would basically remove almost the entire upper torso of the target. Would a slug from a Desert Eagle have a similar effect, or are all .50 rounds not created equal?
