If a human target were to receive a single center-mass hit from a fifty caliber machine gun, it would basically remove almost the entire upper torso of the target. Would a slug from a Desert Eagle have a similar effect, or are all .50 rounds not created equal? The machine gun in the trailer fires the type of bullet in the left part of this comparison: upload.wikimedia.org/wikipedia/en/thumb/a/ab/Rifle_cartridge_comparison.jpg/300px-Rifle_cartridge_comparison.jpgThe desert eagle fires something like the bullet in the right side of the photo. The Desert Eagle fires pretty much what a Magnum can fire so think about what Dirty Harry used to load up in his gun and compare it to the bullet in the left side of the photo.

"Sunshine" Extended Trailer -- www.apple.com/trailers/fox_searchlight/sunshine/extendedtrailer/Over 5min of preview goodness...I recognized almost every plot fragment from some other movie ( Alien, The Core, Leviathan, heck, even the TV movie Lifeboat), but it still looks like it could be a thriller. And Cillian Murphy never hurts. But then, that could be my bias showing.

I dunno... Robert Zemeckis knows his stuff. Didja notice Neil Gaiman's a producer?
Also I had to watch this twice before I realized it's all animated. Seriously, take a close look!

It's just, when I watch it, it gives me "mediocre" vibes.
Maybe I'm wrong... I hope I'm wrong.

I went to see Hairspray with my family last weekend (I recommend it, btw), and we saw a trailer for a movie I'd heard nothing of, yet am basically salivating over now. Get this: They're making a sequel to Elizabeth - this one's about the Spanish Armada. And, the part that made me cough on my popcorn so that my entire family laughed at me: Clive Owen's playing Sir Walter Raleigh. He's all piratey and puffy-shirty. Elizabeth: The Golden Age trailer

sarahbot, check out page 4. Here I am, trying to inform, and my efforts go unappreciated. *sniff* But Clive Owen definitely has a bit of a "yarr" feel.

Mea culpa. I must not have seen it because the trailer truly blindsided me. I shall be more researchsome next time.

To answer the "50 caliber question" The 50 cal desert eagle round is 12.7 mm in diameter, SLIGHTLY smaller in diameter than the Machine gun 50 cal round. The 50 cal machine gun round is longer and heavier and has SUBSTANTIALLY more Gun powder to propel it. The heavy mass and muzzle velocity are what gives the machine gun round the eviscerating knock-down power. Combined with the LONG barrel on the gun, it builds up a larger amount of gas pressure behind it as it leaves the barrel giving the round it's long distance accuracy capabilities.
The 50 cal desert eagle round has MUCH less powder to propel it and because it is a hand gun, has less barrel to travel down and doesn't gain as much muzzle velocity. When a desert eagle 50 cal round stirkes a limb... per se... the limb will be taken off. A head shot will shatter the head of the target. A torso hit would have an entrance wound a bit larger than a 25 cent piece, and an exit wound the size of a salad plate, taking blood and organ pieces with it.
