i just downloaded the new trailer, and i'll admit that i'm one of the ones who think it looks amazing, and that daniel craig actually looks like he could work as bond.
i say that with all my love for pierce intact, and knowing that an expertly-prepared trailer is seldom indicative of an expertly-crafted film.
but, for now, i'm happy to live in suspense. hooray! thanks, sony pictures!

See, that's what I've been saying the whole time Casino Royale starring Daniel Craig got greenlighted (greenlit?), but no one will listen to me.

I think that it is going to be "okay" - I hope I'm wrong, 'cause I love James Bond movies, however, I suspect he's going to be more Lazenby than Connery...

I think it lookes pretty good as well, though I too have a feeling this bond won't last. At lest the bond girl is a whole lot "hotter" then Halle Berry (why does everyone think she's pretty?)

I definitley think it looks good, I'm just not sure if it's Bond. I think Daniel Craig has a fighting chance of being a quite a good 007 and Casino Royale looks like it has some actual stuntwork in it, which I feel like they've gotten away from. The trailer definitely made me hopeful, but I've disliked the last two* so much that I'm finding myself stuck in 'cautiously optimistic' mode.

I agree with being cautiously optimistic, though Die Another Day was fun for me. I'm hoping that Casino Royale will live up to my cautiously optimistic outlook.

I was (and still am!) a die-hard Clive-Owen-for-Bond supporter, and with all the murmurs over him I was dead set against seeing any more Bond movies until they cast Clive as Bond. But then two things happened: I saw the trailer, which looks AWESOME, and I watched Munich, which has Daniel Craig in it. I think I'm really going to enjoy Casino Royale.
(But Daniel still isn't going to be as good as Clive could be.)

I think I disagree with you about Clive. He's too...pouty...for lack of a better term. He doesn't seem the type to kill someone like Bond. Instead, I see him whining about having to kill. Which works for Clive (save for his role in Sin City), but it isn't Bond.

Both characters who I know (in Identity, because he's a hitman) or believe (in Croupier) would have no problem killing someone.

i can't believe it myself, but the chris cornell theme to 'casino royale' is really, really good. the video is slightly less so, but only because i DON'T want to see clips from the movie, so i blink when that happens, and because i DON'T want to see close-ups of some "alternative music dude" with odd facial hair, so i blink when that happens, as well.
but, yeah: i like it! nice lyrics, nice sounds, and nice tone, so it's pretty much got 'tomorrow never dies' by sheryl crow beat (and i ended up liking that one, too!). i put a bootleg of it on my ipod (shhh!) and i'm listening to it nonstop as i do chores and get ready for work. i can dig it!
p.s. who's seeing 'casino royale' with me in a couple weeks on opening night? i can't decide between the new theaters at riverside plaza (which would allow me to throw a massive bond party at my friend's house) or at victoria gardens (larger, newer theaters, but less pre- and post-party options locally). hmm. anyway, clear your schedules, local people!

I was a little confused when I saw Judi Dench in the trailer... isn't this supposed to take place at the beginning of Bond's career? What with them making such a big fuss about her being the new, female M in Goldeneye, you'd think they would have gotten a guy to play M.
I also haven't read Casino Royale for well over a decade, so I don't remember the plot clearly, but I seem to recall a lot of it taking place in a casino. Any word on how much (if at all) the movie is following the book's plot?

Yeah, I like Judi Dench, but I was thinking the exact same thing. I am just so excited for this movie. It's one of the few movies that got put on my "come Hell or high water" list of movies to see in a theater this year. From what I can see in the trailer, Daniel Craig's going to be just fine as Bond. I just have to try to keep expectations from getting too high.

Well now THIS is interesting... I hadn't realized it, maybe because I wasn't paying attention, but Casino Royale is actually being treated as a reinvention of the franchise, ala Batman Begins. Not that any of the Bond films have had a particularly tight continuity between each other, but I think this is the first to actually treat the others like they didn't happen. Intriguing.
Anyway, it's getting great reviews, although everyone notes that for the first time ever, the title sequence is different and the classic Bond theme is saved until the credits. But people are saying that it gets back to the sociopathic, rugged, nearly sadistic Bond of Ian Flemings's books, rather than the ultra-suave, tech savvy charmer he's been in most of the films. Since Casino Royale was the first Bond novel Fleming wrote, I guess that's appropriate.
Here's a question: if this film is a success, as it certainly looks like it will be, would you prefer that they go back and remake earlier films based on Fleming's books, like Dr. No or From Russia With Love, in the new style, or go with all-new stories from here on out?

I'd say new ones. I'd go back to the Batman idea - they're not going to start putting Christian Bale in bat-nipples now, are they? (New nightmare, right there.) Nope - just a new take. They can take place before, after, during the movies from the '90s. Same as Bond - they didn't have trouble making up new plots when they ran out of Fleming's stories. By the way, does anyone know just how many books Fleming wrote?
In other news, I'm leaving to see Casino Royale in half an hour! Very excited.
