any canadians here? any of you watch the new Brent Butt show, Corner Gas? I do...and it is pretty funny. Brent Butt's standup comedy is pretty hilarious, and the show lives up to it, in my opinion. It gets cheesy at times, but i find it much funnier than Friends or Will and Grace or a whole bunch of satanic primetime shows. I dunno if i'm alone on this, but w/e

The maple-scented threat, we are.
Yep, fellow Canuck here. There are actually a couple more lurking around, but none I've seen in a little while. We're so lonely, we turn to Americans for company!
I've never heard of Corner Gas, but I know Brent Butt. The guy's pretty darn funny. Gimme a lowdown on the show, eh?

will do. Strongbad rocks, btw...but Strongsad is funnier
The show takes place in the small, ficticious (is that how you spell it?) town of Dog River, Saskatchewan, and it's revolves around Brent Butt's character, who owns a gas station, and his friends and family. The show dislays how crazy smalltowners in a sitcom can be. One episode has pretty much everybody in town tricking Bent's father into thinking he's becoming senile, and another has the guy from the Glad garbage bag commercials as a guest star. Pretty funny stuff. The show is on CTV on Wednesdays and on The Comedy Network on the weekends over here in Toronto, Ontario. I dunno what the schedules are elsewhere, though. But if you like Brent Butt's comedy, this show is worth checking out.

No no no... in Canada, the Glad Man is a demented old guy with white hair and a white suit... kind of like about 20 years ago, except now they depict him breaking into peoples' houses.
Seriously.

I really like that show, it's kind of like a live action simpsons in canada. one of my favorite quotes: "Man has it been busy I've been hearing more bells than... than... "Quasimodo? Pavlovs Dog? Chief Bell Tester at the Bell Factory?"

Brent: Look, Dad. You're gonna live for a long time. Oscar: How can you be so sure? Brent: Because I've angered the Karma gods, and you're my punishment.
Oscar: Someone my age goes to the doctor's, and everyone's going to assume he needs some little blue pills, because he can't...you know. Brent: Ugh! Dad! Emma: What's he talking about? Brent: Viagra, Mom. Emma: What? That's ridiculous!.......well, if you're going to the doctor's, you might as well ask for some. Brent: MOM!!!

I liked the episode where the residents of Dog River are trying to think of something they can build that represents what they're all about.

The guy who plays Hank on the show had a brief part in Dead Like Me as a salesman at the mall who ends up biting the dust. I was slightly perturbed about how his character on Dead Like Me was the polar opposite of his character on Corner Gas (he even says the f word on Dead Like Me *slight gasp* ), and his death was exceptionally odd/bloody. DING DING DING! STOP THE PRESSES! LET THE DOGS OUT! MY 100TH POST! ;D

Corner Gas is the lamest excuse for a sitcom imaginable. The fact that it actually is considered "hilarious," "gut-wrenchingly funny," and so on is an indication of how many people in this country have absolutely no life, or I.Q. To even compare this third rate piece of garbage to something as brilliant as Seinfeld is ridiculous. Read a few U.S. newspapers people. They describe Corner Gas as looking like it was produced by high school students with no apparent aptitude for comedy writing, timing or a general sense of what's actually funny.
Saying Corner Gas is the best Canadian comedy is comparable to being the best hockey player in Brazil.

Saying Corner Gas is the best Canadian comedy is comparable to being the best hockey player in Brazil. Have you ever heard of SCTV? Or Wayne and Shuster? Or maybe the whole Just for Laughs franchise? Royal Canadian Air Farce? This Hour Has 22 Minutes? Comedy Inc.? That isn't even all of it. Look, you don't have to like anything you don't want to, but I don't appreciate not only being insulted personally, but having the whole nation bashed. All because of one show. Lighten up, man...seriously.
