I was thinking lately how much I love this show for the secondary characters, especially Phyllis and Kevin. They don't get tons of screen time or even the biggest laughs, but they're both incredibly endearing and so non-typical. You don't see a lot of overweight folks on network sitcoms, but each of these actors have taken their parts and truly made them memorable. I like how quietly sincere Phyllis is -- I keep expecting her to snap and kill Angela -- and Kevin's little moment last season where he gets his parking space back was surprisingly touching.

Justin- absolutely agreed. "Vote for my band, Scrantonicity 2, NOT Scrantonicity!" The entire bit with Holly thinking that Kevin was 'slow' was just too funny and awkward.

Having caught a random episode of Season 2 of this show, I was completely bowled over by it. Of course, I've seen the original (if you're British, its in the manual under "Required Viewing") but never thought it was the bees knees, like so many others. Having just seen everything up to the latest episodes, I'll just state I prefer the U.S. version. It just manages to keep those awkward moments just on the right side of discomfort. And, to be fair, the U.S. version is in season 5 and has been its own animal for 4 years... I think its time people stopped making comparisons. Wait... *looks over post* NOW people stop making comparisons

I'm getting a little irritated with the Pam/Jim storyline this season.
I undestand that the conventional tv wisdom is that once the romantic tension is resolved and a show's central couple gets together that ratings begin to drop, but I was really hoping that The Office would face this threat head-on and try something new. Instead, looks like we're in for more angst, less marital bliss.
Oh well, I guess the genesis of narrative is conflict, and the show has been REALLY funny lately.

Oh yeah, and am I the only one who is really hating Pam's new guy friend and his supposedly "friendly" advice?
It reminds me of shortly after my wife and I got married and a guy who had been interested in her a few years back wrote her an e-mail entitled "For your eyes only". I would have ripped him out a whole new door if he wasn't big enough to swallow me whole.

Oh yeah, and am I the only one who is really hating Pam's new guy friend and his supposedly "friendly" advice? Husband referred to that guy as 'fake-chubby'Jim-standin' the moment he laid eyes on him. This was a predictible turn, but I'm ok with it. Also highly entertained by Angela/Andy wedding plans. ETA- I kind of want one of those coffee mugs with Meredith's head on it.

Here's a new topic for discussion: how does Michael keep his job as branch manager of DM Scranton?
Of course we all know the real reason: Steve Carell is awesome and the character is hilarious. But I mean within the context of the show... how would you explain the fact that Michael is still in charge? His employees don't respect him and aren't shy about admitting it to other people, even if they don't all say it to his face like Stanley. Last season we learned that Jan consistently gave him poor performance reviews even after they started dating, and obviously Ryan didn't feel any differently when he took Jan's job. CFO David Wallace admitted that Michael was never being seriously considered for Jan's job- since Jim and Karen theoretically were and Ryan ultimately got it, by extension we can infer that DM upper management thinks the people working under Michael are more talented and competent than Michael himself. When the Scranton branch was going to be closed, they were willing to cut Michael loose without a second thought.
So given all that, how would you explain how Michael remains the branch manager? Obviously the company doesn't seem to be run particularly well, so is it just apathy? When Meredith's, uh, "special discount" came to light earlier this season, management didn't seem to care much and told Holly to drop it, so maybe they'd all just rather bury their heads in the sand and pretend the Scranton branch doesn't exist. Whaddaya think? Of course we'll never come up with a definitive answer, but it's fun to speculate.

Well, there have been a few episodes, including the latest one (which was awesome, btw) where Michael clinches a seemingly impossible sale. Remember that episode where he first kissed Jan? She kissed him because she was so surprised and excited that he made that sale to the county (and she was drunk too, if I remember correctly).
But, then again, as branch manager, Michael probably isn't involved in sales day-to-day, so this alone couldn't account for his continued employment.
I don't know, but this is the only positive thing I can think of that Mike brings to Dunder Mifflin.

I am so relieved that Pam likes the house Jim bought. (Here I am talking about it like they are real people).
I am constantly and pleasantly surprised that the writers are bucking the tv and romantic comedy trend and have largely avoided injecting artificial angst into the Pam/Jim relationship. I say let them be happy. We need a few more examples of well-adjusted couples on tv.

Hey, not sure if anyone here was aware of it, but a couple of years ago I discovered that Jenna Fischer (Pam Beesley) has a myspace page. It is actually rather hilarious and has links to other actors on The Office who also have pages. It cracks me up how much Jenna is actually like Pam. Here's the link: www.myspace.com/pambeesley

"Stanley, you crush your wife during ___ and your heart sucks... ROASTED!" They need to stop trying to scare us with PB+J breakup scanarios and just let them stay happy.
