I'm curious to know what people's absolute most favourite games are and why. It'd be good to get some recommended titles to play, I think. ^_^ For myself I'm tempted to say Final Fantasy VII, but I'm going to go with the Spyro the Dragon PSX trilogy as my favourites for all time. I'm a sucker for good platforming/puzzle solving games, and Spyro is about as classic as they get on the good old Playstation (Crash Bandicoot is up there too, but I have more fun playing as Spyro). I just finished Spyro 3 again and I'm looking into getting either a replacement for my Spyro 2 or at least taking it in to one of those places that fixes scratched disks (we lost the case for it. ) So...gush about your favourites! Talk! I commandeth thee! *boogedy-boogedy*

As far as classics go...
The obligitory Final Fantasy IV/II and VI/III - it's Final Fantasy, 'nuff said. Doom II - what they don't want you to know is that you really have to use yer head to get out of some of the later levels. It's not just killing, and it's a conspiracy. Super Mario 2 and 3 - jump around, eat mushrooms fun. Super Metriod - jump around, shoot aliens fun. Dark Forces II: Jedi Knight - and I believe you can get this for your PC for like $5 now or something, and it rox with mid- to low-ended machines (like mine). There are lots more, put I will refrain and move onto...
The Sony Playstation! (Since Anthy, I take it, may be mostly interested in this platform) -Now, I don't have a lot of games for my playstation, and I don't play it as much as I used to (thanks to becoming a responsible adult), but my favs are: Final Fantasy 9 - I'm just into the old skool FF flava of it, though I enjoyed 7 and 8 just as much. Metal Gear Solid - you can get this super cheap nowadays, and it's a real nifty gaming experience, real brainy and totally reliant on stealth. Tenchu: Stealth Assassins - it's bloody, and the voice dubbing is HORRIBLE, but it's even more of a stealth game than Metal Gear. If you're into old school atari-style games, check out the Namcomuseum series. I have the one with Ms. Pac-Man, Galaxian, Tower of Druaga, Dig Dug and Pole Position, and it's great fun if you have friends over.
Also, if you have a PC, a tad bit of computer knowledge, and some time to search them out, I suggest checking out ROMs for the MAME - or Multiple Arcade Machine Emulator. The ROMs are free, and technically speaking are not legal at all if you download them, but some of the best arcade games of yor are all but lost except for these ROMs, so I feel much less bad about downloading them. My favs are the Final Fight style beat 'em ups of the nineties, especially the more far-out ones like TMNT, Aliens Vs Predator, Dungeons and Dragons, and The Avengers. The classics, like Star Wars Arcade, Galaga, Tempest, and Donkey Kong are well worth the research also.

Metal Gear Solid is one of my faves too.
MGS2 was fun, but the story was confusing, convoluted, hilariously bad.

The three games that kept me at rapt attention from start to finish multiple times were Chrono Trigger, Secret of Mana, and Donkey Kong Country 2. Labelling any single one of those as my absolute favorite of all time is tough, but they're up there, no question.
Oh, and for anyone who never got to check out MGS the first time around, it's been remade, redubbed, slightly replotted, and rereleased for Gamecube as Metal Gear: The Twin Snakes. I saw a friend play through a bit of it the other night, and it's definitnely worth checking out (if not buying). The whole thing has been redone in the MGS2 engine, with a few new twists (so they say), and some notched up enemy AI.

I think I made a thread on this a while ago.
Anyway, my favorites are Chrono Trigger, Super Mario RPG, Final Fantasy I (yes, I know, it's weird), VI (I still haven't finished it) X, Tactics Advance, Super Smash Bros. Melee, and The Doom Generation-The Game That's as Good as the Movie (Okay, I made the last one up).

Homeworld, hard as hell but a great story and atmosphere.
Flashpoint, a realistic FPS taking place on an island overun by Soviets. Another toughy but it ropes you in. You start playing REALLY carefully in a game where one shot can kill.

I think I made a thread on this a while ago. I didn't see one like it apart from the "what are you playing now" thread, so I figured it was okay to start this thread. ^_^; But I think I'm going to look into several of the titles people have listed so far (the ones that have been mentioned several times). I'm currently not as much of a hardcore gamer as some but am definitely looking to morph into one in the not-so-distant future.

My favourite games? People reading my regular contributions to these type of threads should know what to expect here.
RESIDENT EVIL
I don't care how dated or corny they are in comparison to modern games, I love all the Resident Evil games to bit, mainly because they've got zombies and other nasties in. Play them in order 1, 2, 3, and Code:Veronica.
MAX PAYNE[/color]
My favourite PC game of all time ever, and the sequel is superfantastic as well, even if it is a bit short and easy.

I gotta agree with the RE games...the first time those dogs or the birds crashed through the windows, that was enough to justify the cost right there...and the stories, when you actually care what happens to Jill or whoever you use...i loved those games (though the new ones have been rather mediocre).
Some of my fav's are...
- Simpsons arcade (when i was 13 or so, i must have dropped countless quarters into that game) - TMNT Arcade (again...same as simpsons) - Kid Nikki (for nes, first game i ever beat on my own) - Ikari warriors (first game me and my friend didnt go to sleep for a night to beat) - all the mario brothers games (ive enjoyed all of them) - Grand Theft Auto 3 (the best of the bunch, vice city just did nothing for me)
...so many to name, ill just say that i have alot more favorites but those were the ones that stuck out the most at the time...oh yeah, and i cant forget the Crash Bandicoot games, me and my wife spent nearly an entire broke month playing those games after work beating them in order...lol (when you have hardly any money and your newly weds hard to beat spending a nice afternoon in the summer a/c playing playstation 1)
