King Kong the Game is surprisingly freaky in parts. very similar to doom in some scenes. It's Darned freaky getting cornered with those giant millipedes.

Y'all want to hear a true tale of woe?
Earlier you've all heard me wax poetic on the awesomeness that is System Shock 2. And lo, I got reeeaaaally far into the game. That was two weeks ago.
Last weekend I decided to wipe my hard drive and up my os from win98 to 2000, so that my computer runs faster (with less crap on the drive, it runs a lot better now) and to get some of my stuff working (a 128 meg flash drive I got for Christmas and a new CD-RW). And everything's going good. Until I reinstall System Shock 2. Guess what? "Your video card is incompatible with System Shock 2." Funny, that was the same video card I used last week when you were working fine.
I've scoured the internet like a madman looking for a solution, and all the fixes I've tried are in vain. Apparently, not only is my video card old and outdated (as is most of the rest of my system) but System Shock 2 is no big fan of 2000/XP either.
So, lament for me, for I am now deprived of this exceptional game and only grow sadder and more obsessed for a solution that is just out of my reach with each passing day. But hey, I think Silent Hill 2 may work better on my system now, so I might just start that one again.

I know this isn't exactly what you want to hear, but if you go to XP, you can run any program in an OS shell. So System Shock 2 would think it was running under Win98, for example, while you use drivers for WinXP for your video card.
Out of curiousity, what kind of card is it? Usually you can get a retroactive driver pretty easily.

I have a similar problem with my Win95 dinosaur game, only it's something to do with the sound card. Cards, I know nothing about...

I just remembered something related to the OP.
Parasite Eve. *spoilers*
When you're done battling the Ultimate Being and all that's left to do is to RUN. The U.B. is this giant, fast amoeba that kills you instantly with a touch. So you're trying to work your way through the ship AND IT KEEPS COMING CLOSER AND CLOSER...
I had to pause several times due to trembleling.

It does, however, feature 16 megs of PURE AWESOME!!! And by AWESOME I mean crap. So I'm thinking of hitting up my parents for a new video card for Easter or my b-day in June or something, and in the meanwhile installing a win98 driver and see what happens. Now that I'm on 2000, my computer is blazin' compared to how it was before. Oh, and I just started playing Sanitarium. I'm still in the beginning, but that's just a creepy game right there. The whole "solve puzzles to get the hell anywhere" wears thin on me, but I'm temped to ferry on for the plotline.

Sanitarium had some twisted stuff in it, and I thought it did a good job of combining reasonably difficult puzzles and item grabbing that didn't trumpet itself to the player (i.e. items you can pick up and interact with look no different than the stuff that's just backround filler). The game would always crash on me after beating the fifth scenario, though. I tried it three times on three different systems and it happened every time, *grumble*. Anyways, good choice, Jay. It'll keep you busy and mildly creeped out at the same time.

Today, I am REJOICEING! And I don't even know if I spelled that right! But I care not, for today I finally managed to get System Shock 2 running on my upgraded computer. I'll probably be playing that blasted game tonight until I beat it or I fall out from exhaustion.
And pity, I had convinced my mom to buy me a new video card yesterday for the very reason that I can't play my old games. Guess I'll just keep this as a little secret, then.
