Hey guys, not that I'm fishing for compliments, but I just would like some honest feedback about the new column. It's something that's been brewing in my mind for a while now, something that I know I'd love to read if I was just visiting the web site.
What did you like/not like about the style?
What facets or geek things did we overlook in general and specific?
What would you like to see in the column for the future?

I did like the fact that it covers more geek bases than just the movies. That's really cool.
I didn't like the fact that it started feeling a little "Entertainment Tonight"-ish about midway. But it's only the first one! You'll get it!

Yeah, still figuring out the tone... want to definitely make it MRFH in tone and style...
I'm never crazy about covering stuff like celeb gossip and even casting rumors, unless it's something very significant.
Was debating whether to do more of an abbreviated style -- bullet point lists -- or the current paragraph-per-subject style, or something else entirely. Am open to suggestions.

I thought it was pretty good, but hey, there's always room for improvement. And is the name a reference to Wrapped In Plastic?

I have to admit, I don't get the name either.
I like the idea of longer news items rather than bullet lists, because bullet lists are utterly devoid of personality. I just could have used a liiiiittle less John Tesh haunting the back of my brain. That's all.

Never having watched ET that religiously, don't know why your mind is making that connection.
And the title is from Star Wars... I'm assuming you know that... otherwise, it has no greater significance than just being a weird title for a column.

Just one comment... Harry Potter comes out on July 16th, not June 16th, as mentioned in the article. I'm surprised that Lissa didn't jump all over that one... maybe she hasn't read the article yet?

Oh, and as for feedback, on the article in general... I think it's a good addition to the site.

And the title is from Star Wars... I'm assuming you know that... Star What now? Yes, of course I know what carbonite is. I just didn't see if there was a clever little pun tying "frozen in carbonite" to "reporting geek news". Don't worry about it!

Just one comment... Harry Potter comes out on July 16th, not June 16th, as mentioned in the article. I could have sworn that they had June 16th all over the posters here at the local bookstores. Just noted it 'cause it's so close to my birthday. That and I like Harry Potter.

I think it's a great idea that negates the need to go hunting around Dark Horizons and (shudder) Ain't It Cool. I only wonder if relevant news items occur frequently enough to make it a weekly feature (especially if future editions would contain as many topics as this one did). Other than that: like it, love it, want some more of it.

Re: Harry Potter... Amazon.com says July, but other places (where I got that info for the article) says June. Guess I'll zip over to the official site and see...
The official site says July 16. Okie dokie. I'll put out a correction in the next issue.
As for future length and info... guess it depends on what's happening. I didn't want this to be a huge undertaking on just one day of the week, so my plan is that I have about six or so sources (plus a couple occasional stragglers) that I'll visit daily and take note of anything cult or geek-ish. Yesterday, for example, I added three paragraphs of stuff.
And you guys are always encouraged to send stuff in as well -- I had someone tell me that I should mention Star Trek: Enterprise's series finale, so we're doing that in the next issue.

By the way, Ain't It Cool will never be one of the sources. I loathe that site.

Actually, the only reason know it because we've been planning our calendar for July, and it was looking like we'd have to work around the 16th, because of the book release Amazon now says thay'll guarantee delivery on July 16th if you choose their standard delivery, or it's free. We've got a bbq to go to that afternoon, but I'm guessing we'll have to wait for a visit from the UPS man before then. Along those lines, I wonder if UPS will treat this the same way they do the XMas season, and have additional personnel working overtime on 15th and 16th, to handle the increased workload delivering the books? ;D

Who plans a BBQ over three months in advance?
