Anyone else watch the premier this past Friday?
I’d love to see the original pilot that was filmed because the new pilot certainly did not have a Joss Whedon feel to it. I’ll give it a few more shows but it’s not looking to good so far. Hopefully it expends a bit more with the trademark Whedon humor (isn't that the main reason why most of us fell in love with his work in the first place?).

Anyone else watch the premier this past Friday? Nope, ... ...I don't even have to. I knew it all along. Thanks, Eunice, for bringing us the words of the Joss. So, Train Job, anyone? My first thought, but not quite accurate. What does alarm me, however, is that he seems to have given in to change the tone of the show. But his tone is the most enjoyable aspect of his œuvre. What do you think? I don't know what I enjoy more -- gloating or having people agree with me.

So, today's snow day has let me watch two of the three Dollhouse episodes so far.
I like the premise a lot. I like the fact that the dolls are private, for-hire people, not government-run assassins or anything. I like watching Eliza do anything and I like the guy from 24 as her "handler."
I'm just not so sure about the execution. I don't think it's a bad show and I'm willing to give it time to gather steam before passing real judgment on it, but I am not convinced the network is going to feel the same way. It's had an acceptable start, though, so I'll just hold my breath and see.

We've been DVR'ing the season so far, but haven't watched any episodes yet. I'm thinking it would be nice to have this last a bit longer, before I invest any time in it.

I've seen episode one and two and it's not bad. It has some potential.
And yet...there's something nagging at the back of my brain. Its like Buffy and Angel and Firefly were excellent. Toy Story was awesome... but... Dollhouse is missing something...soul.

It's definitely missing something, but I won't go so far as to say it's soulless. it's just more... watered down. I don't dislike it by any means, and if I didn't know it was a Joss Whedon show, I'd probably be perfectly happy with it.
When I watch or read something Joss has written, there's usually a point where I'm compelled to stop and emote to the empty room about whatever cool/creepy/hilarious thing just happened and that hasn't been the case yet with Dollhouse. Of course, given all the compromises and sacrifices they've had to make in order for it to see the light of day, I'm willing to give it more time to figure itself out (assuming Fox will do the same).

As a rule of thumb, I avoid anything with Eliza Dushku in it if/when possible.

Dollhouse cancelled. They won't even let it air it's season finale. And it had finally gotten really good, too!

Dollhouse cancelled. They won't even let it air it's season finale. And it had finally gotten really good, too! Well, this guy seems slightly confused... It seems it might be renewed. Theoretically. I just mention that for completness' sake, not because I have any trust in the decency or intelligence of Fox.

"WTF?" Is all I can proffer...
Dollhouse just got to the point where the show was worth watching. Why does anyone still bother investing any time in Fox shows?

"WTF?" Is all I can proffer... Taking on a new show is always a risk. Fox doesn't put all their eggs in one basket. I get that. Expecting to cancel some shows is rational. But you need at least a little investment to try and make a show. They are not waiting for successes to happen, they are waiting for a miracle. I don't get that. (Also, their BDSM philosophy is logically inconsistent: The scattershot approach is based on the confession they don't know how to build successes. Fair enough. But then why meddle with the creative process?) I'm not telling you anything you didn't know, of course—I just wanted an excuse to quote Scott Adams: "By definition risk takers often fail. So do morons. In practice it's often difficult to sort them out." Good question. If you mean the viewers: It's an easy surefire way to get in on the ground floor of Cult. If you mean the infanticide victims: I always assumed no other network would have given them a better chance. Does anyone have information on this?

No rejoicing yet that Dollhouse has been officially renewed for a second season of 13 episodes?
When *I'm* the one to break Joss Whedon news, you know there's a problem.

Well, I like being wrong. Let me try again: It seems it might get a better time slot for season 3. Theoretically. I just mention that for completness' sake, not because I have any trust in the decency or intelligence of Fox.

I'm confused. Did we see the finale? Or is there another episode on DVD to come? I just don't know! The last few episodes were great and I really thought that by steering away from generic "This week Echo is a diamond thief/model/train driver" episodes to ones which challenged your perceptions of memory vs personality vs the soul, this show demonstrated REAL potential to be something really special. I'm really happy there is a season 2, I'm just not sure if season 1 ended? that's when you know something's wrong!

I'm confused. Did we see the finale? Or is there another episode on DVD to come? Yes and yes. Ep. 12 "does serve as a season finale"; Ep. 13 will only be on DVD. The details are quite ... let's simply call them interesting. Don't worry. Even Eliza Dushku doesn't know.
