You're more than likely right. I'm still scarred by my experiences in Research and Development in the Private sector. Unlike Ray Stanz's experience, I found that they not only did NOT expect results, but wanted to work more on excuses for non-results than achieving anything. They approached slacking off with the same vigor people should approach actually doing something... and to quote Yahtzee that's sort of admirable... in a retarded way, I suppose...
You'd be hard pressed not to find a depressed or cynical person who studies history fanatically. For the simple reason we see the sacrifices and hardships of previous generations, and how the current generation could not possibly do more to throw that heroism back in their face like yesterday's garbage. That's the source of the Rose-tinted glasses. Roddenberry couldn't have possibly been further from the truth; humanity isn't going to wake up and better itself, it's just going to get worse and worse and worse until we're all bureaucratic morons, more akin to Cameron's view of the future in Aliens, or, if we're lucky, we'll invent a machine that will take care of us as we turn into gigantic babies like Asimov predicted.

The pet bunny that you and your wife have had since almost the beginning of your relationship getting sick, refusing to eat, and eventually having to be put to sleep to keep her from starving. I'm so sorry we couldn't make you better, Gizmo. We miss you.

doing too much dope and feeling like a zombie the next day. Getting banned at a d series forum. I don't know what either of those things is like and I'm not even sure what a d-series forum is, but... sympathies nonetheless. A bit late, but welcome to the forum! -D

...finding out that one of your best friends from back in the day was shot and killed by her husband. Also knowing you two didn't keep in touch for the last few years and that you can never talk to her again.
EDIT: Then finding out the next day that your beloved, 97-year old grandmother is in the hospital with double pneumonia. She's survived a broken leg, a broken hip, and pneumonia, among other things this past year, but I'm pretty worried now.

Thanks. *hug back* Oh also, since you asked before, my condition's pretty inconclusive. Stage 1 hypertension-level blood pressure, which is probably causing everything else. Was told to diet and exercise and come back in a few weeks to see how it goes. Basically I have a case of the fats. Been feeling much better lately, so I'm okay with the diagnosis. Something needed to get me in gear.

I know I'm late in offering my condolences, but I'm so sorry, Heather. That's a horrible thing to have happen, and please accept my sympathy.

I see I was the last one to post in here, which now makes me feel like a giant whiner. Still....misery is going to a party and blowing out my knee playing Wii Just Dance. The pain was so intense I almost threw up, and of course I felt like an arse with everyone running around and freaking out over me. It's the next morning and I still can't walk, so I'm expecting to need a visit to the ER. Feels scary and depressing, especially after we just sprung a bunch of money for a couple of really nice bikes and I was havingsuch an amazing time riding them.
