Not that we're against helping, but shouldn't you be doing your own homework? Just saying.

oh but I am, I just wanted to gleam any insight into movies from such a huge authority such as yourself. with My dismal mind I could never think of great titles like your far superior intellect. I'll just go wipe the brown off my nose now
P.S. I'm sorry I wasn't logged in before when I started the thread.

Well, we watch Scrooged every year. And then there are the classics like It's a Wonderful Life. But don't forget Gremlins.

Scrooged and National Lampoon's Christmas Vacation are gimme's (and two of my favorites)...but I think my very favorite Xmas movie is The Ref. Dunno if it's appropriate to publish in a school newspaper, though.
And by the way, Jay wholeheartedly supports your attempt to get help with your bit o' homework. I would have done the same, but I went to school in those dark days before the internet...that's right, the early to mid-nineties.

Be sure to put Bad Santa on both lists.

I'm very fond of the Muppet Christmas Carol, myself. Michael Caine made a great Scrooge. (I also really enjoyed last year's Muppet's TV special with Moulin Scrooge!, but that's not a theater type movie.) I also actually thought The Santa Clause was cute. My new favorite is Love Actually, but it's rated R, so I don't know if you'd want to recommend it in a paper where the majority of readers are under 17.
Year's best movies... I haven't seen it yet, but I'm going to guess at Return of the King. And Love Actually. If you can't tell, I really liked Love Actually.

Miracle on 34th Street (1947) for the Christmas category, and Pirates of the Carribean for the One of the Best Films of the Year slot.

The made-for-TV version of "Babes in Toyland" starring Keanu Reeves and Drew Barrymore. Simply jaw-dropping. Especially during the one musical number about the many wonders of Cincinatti.

Lissa, I could hug you. "The Muppet Christmas Carol" is, by far, my favorite Christmas movie. I still tear up when Belle is singing "The Love is Gone" to young Scrooge and old Scrooge starts singing along with her and crying at the same time. Michael Caine, you are a god among men (and I can't wait to see you as Alfred in the new Batman). Another film I love, and yes it's so cliche, is "It's A Wonderful Life". It's just got such a positive message that fits well with Christmas. Live a good life and be thankful for what you have. It'll put the spirit in me every year, no matter how bad the year may have been.
Example: One year they had a Toys 4 Tots toy drive at a local theater. Everyone who brought a toy got a free admission. The girl I was with was really ashamed of me when, at the end, I was just full of spirit and yelled "MERRY CHRISTMAS!" along with good ol' George Bailey.

I like A Muppet Christmas Carol, but I really don't like The Love is Gone. I always fast forward through that song. Though, I'll give Michael Cain some major props for that movie. He's really, really awesome as Scrooge. Also, the special effects are really good. The ghost of Christmas Past is my favorite effect followed by the spiral travel with The Ghost of Christmas Future.
And of course, Sam the American Eagle as the school teacher.

I'm slightly more partial to the new muppet Christmas movie (the one where Beaker is a bouncer and Sam is a raver in an alternate universe), probably because The Muppets Christmas Carol isn't that good. It's not horrible, it's not tooo boring, it's just a 2-hour shot of blah.

There's also Nightmare Before Christmas. 5 million Hot Topic groupies can't be wrong.
I remember last year I did a video project for my Media Tech class over Christmas movies, but now I don't remember what they all were. I remember I threw 12 Monkeys in there, just for the "hey, it's a good movie anyway" factor...
