I have a bed.
And sleeping on top of mannequins is hard on the back.

It's one of those corner desks, made of a 4'x4' piece of plywood with a corner cut off for a chair. I had intended to have a sliding tray in that corner for the keyboard and mouse (saving the resulting vast expanse of tabletop for when I want to spread out textbooks), but I ran out of time and had to scrap the slide out tray (plus the book case and side table), and hitch up my chair instead. In fact I was so far behind schedule that I had to ship it incomplete and put a final layer of polyurethane on it after assembly in my new apartment. And since it was assembled in my bedroom, that caused a few extra problems of its own.

So I guess your back's pretty sore then, J...

Sweeeeeet. I'm starting to like this. A lot. Hmmm, should I talk about something different? How about the evils American Idol presents to the music industry as we know it? The decline of the rock genre? ?

Rock may be declining, but I can't stop laughing at William Hung. He's a king amongst kings.

I've gotten sucked into American Idol. The music industry was already declining.
If I was going to watch another TV show, I guess it would be Nashville Star when it's on. The country version of American Idol... but they also have to write their own songs. The guy who won the first one is really pretty good (although I like his second song a LOT better than his first!)

How about:
American Idol representing the decline of the music industry in general...
And Janet Jackson's show at the Super Bowl meaning the end of sexuality in modern pop music? Really, I'm surprised no one's brought up Janet on the forum yet, and all the outcry it's caused. I mean, I think it's a little silly how big a deal it's caused on the media (at least, last week, it seems to be gone now), but I think one good thing that may have come out if it is a signaling of sorts about the end of having pop music so sexually charged. I mean, did you see Britney Spears' last video? It was called "Toxic", I think, and I'm no prude, but I am a new father, and I wouldn't want my daughter watching Britney gyrate against a few guys and dance in a skin-tight fleshed-colored bodysuit. I think it's getting a little ridiculous.
And...I'm getting old. Damn. Can I revise that statement and say it's okay if they play that Britney video after 10? When the kid's in bed? And I'm awake? Mmmmm...Britneylicious...

I think we owe the lack of Janet-related gossip to being a collectively intelligent bunch of humans.
Sexuality in music... I doubt very much it will go away anytime soon, if ever at all. What makes me more curious is how much further can it/will it go? While corporate America shuffles all the "racy" videos on MTV past 10 pm, all the acts are getting more and more outrageous.
Case in point: Tatu. Russian girls who pretend to be lesbian hanging around in almost zero clothing whilst pawing at each other. I hear rumours that there is music in the background.
What's the next step? There's ALWAYS a next step. I think I'm just a little freaked out to see what it is.
But will the sex go away? Never. Somebody will always want to see it, so somebody will always make it.

I hate Tatu with a passion. And as for the Janet Jackson thing, Im suppried it didn't happen sooner but to Britney Spears. I miss the taboo of boobies, and lesbiens.

Sex in music (and movies) is kinda one of my pet peeves. Not that people have it, but does it have to be so blatant??? (I KNOW I'm not the only one who didn't feel like watching a 10 minute porno in the middle of Matrix: Reloaded.) Like Dajayman, I'm not a prude, but honestly. For all that people laugh at country, it's one of the big reasons I got into it. There's songs about things other than sex, and even when they are, well... "You can't say the f-word in country." It's nice. Not that country is all pure and good, mind you, but as a whole I like it better largely for that reason. Oh well. Better get back to work.

If you ever want to make Alex's head explode, say you like TATU. That was a fun afternoon, once.
