Interesting that when I clicked on this thread, the ads that came up were all for bras- and large ones at that.

Our thread meanderings really confuse the automatic ad generator.
Hee.

Wow, you're right... I've never paid attention to the automatic ad generator....
I'm thinking about getting the okay to start a blog. Here's what I'm thinking about writing in the inaugural entry if I can...
RANTING AND RAVING
So, for today's rant...
We are now on the topic of music, ie the GRAMMYS. The Grammys were once a respectable awards ceremony, with no crap and nothing remotely resembling a bunch of people giving useless awards to whomever is popular now.
Wasn't it?
I don't know. I should have been a part of my parents' generation, for sure. Even if it was only with my music tastes, I would have blended in a whole lot more.
What sickens me the most are people who listen to an artist or genre because it's cool. At the public institute of learning I've been unmercilessly thrown into (okay, not thrown, just attending), I have noticed a trend developing. Last year, it was all about Avril and Good Charlotte. You were IN, man, if you listened to Avril! I wore a necktie to school one day and it, if at least temporarily, elevated my status. Now, Garth Brooks is en vogue. Kenny Chesney. Toby Keith. I have nothing against country music, but when you listen to it to fit in with everyone else it grates my nerves.
I am NOT one of those narrow-minded people that make it a rule for themselves to only listen to what no one else is listening to. By that, I mean nothing on the charts, nothing listened to by over 50% of the population, and nothing on a car commercial. I love Led Zeppelin's "Rock and Roll", so I'm definitely out of that category.
But Good Charlotte. They market themselves as punk, but they're really against all that punk was striving to denounce. They're on kids award shows. They're MTV darlings. They have sold-out concerts. When did it happen? When did the transition from "anti-authoritarian" to "sellout" happen?
Basically, it's a dumb teenager rant.

I'm a 15 year old who listens to Half Man Half Biscuit...That is not cool. I really despice Avril and everything her music stands for. I mean, now teeny-bopper magazines illustrate how to get the 'Avril' look and she's trying to act like she doesn't want stardom. 'Oh, why does everyone try to copy me!' And that song of hers, 'Complicated' What so complicated about her life? She's like 17 for the love of god! 'Well, theres this guy I really like...but he sometimes... pulls my hair and runs away laughing! '. Yea, like she's got a complicated life. Like she's had to wrestle a midget to get a bus fare to Scotland so she can stop a wedding...What, just me? A not-so-interesting side note, I've met Robert Plant a couple of times at a few soccor matches.

Actually, I like the song Complicated. The way I listen to it, it's about a girl who likes a guy with a total split personality- he acts like himself when it's just him and her, but when they're around other people he feels the need to be cool and basically turns into a total jerk. I think it's about getting frustrated with people who make everything- especially the way they look to everyone else- so complicated. I actually really like that one because I can completely relate to both aspects of it. Yeah, every now and then the radio gets off the country station

What sickens me the most are people who listen to an artist or genre because it's cool. Agreed! Equally sickening are those who listen to an artist or genre solely because it is obscure or unpopular, and then feel superior to those mentioned above (Because, really, they're both doing the same thing.). That said, I thought Avril was ok. There's always going to be a much-copied teen role-model, and at least she was wearing clothes... Think of the alternatives .

A not-so-interesting side note, I've met Robert Plant a couple of times at a few soccor matches. That's pretty bloody cool, and I have an (possibly) interesting story to add. I love Led Zepplin, and several years ago got a chance to see the Page and Plant tour when it came to Pensacola. So got tickets and told my mom about it, and she proceeded to tell me this short story about one of her good friends back in the early '70's who went away with Robert Plant for a week or weekend or something. And she told me, "You know, if I ever met him, I'd ask him 'You remember back in '72 or so when you *expletive deleted* my friend?'" It was a wonderful mother-son bonding moment. Yup, my mom was a hippie. Her friends were all groupies. So I totally beleive this story.
