I simply cannot wait for next Tuesday. The more I read and hear about Bioshock, the more I'm convinced that this might just be the game of the year. Any other enthusiasts? My only concern is that Irrational's previous Shock title, System Shock 2, scared the living hell out of me, and I hear Bioshock has quite a bit of creep in it as well. Definitely will be playing with the lights on and my wife somewhere near. Game Informer has a pretty cool advance review

And for what it's worth, GameSpy just reviewed the 360 version, and gave it a stellar 5/5 rating. I cannot be any more pumped, although I'm mentally psyching myself up to handle the tension/terror aspect of the title. Darn it, I used to be good at doing horror games. What happened?

Silent Hill scared the bejeezus out of you and you've never fully recovered?
Just a thought.

I've also been looking forward to this for quite a while, since SS2 is basically one of the greatest games ever. Of course, without an Xbox 360, PS3, or computer with any kind of horsepower, I think I'm going to be stuck just looking at the pretty pictures

Silent Hill scared the bejeezus out of you and you've never fully recovered? Just a thought. -D Very possibly. It's weird, I used to be able to take in a lot more freaky movies/games back about 5-10 years ago, and that was when I lived alone. I knew I'd be freaked, but it didn't stop me from playing. If anything, I think my imagination's gotten stronger over the years, and I always envision a movie or game of being way, wayyy scarier than it ends up being. Plus, there's "leap out at you and slaughter everything" horror and "subtle, freaky" horror... and the latter tends to be more psychologically disturbing. Anyway, at least you get some serious weapons and superpowers to back up your fight-or-flight response. Guess I could go watch some scary game You Tube clips to help push me over the edge!

Really, the creepiest thing about Bioshock is the way they jerk at your emotional response with the Little Sisters. It's like... on one hand, creepy small girls with glowing soulless eyes and monstrous Big Daddy protectors that will beat the living heck out of you. On the other hand, they're eight-year-old girls! It's a masterfully done bit to add to the creep factor.

If only I could get it to freaking work on my freaking system...
It's not the lack of internet, the dvd won't even autoplay for the install. Grrr.
Anybody wanna buy my copy? I got it for $40 and I'll let it go for $20 and pay the shipping to the lower 48 here.

Um... even if it won't autoplay, there ought to be a file on the DVD that you can manually run to get the install going. Looked for it yet?

Just started playing it... two words... AWE-SOME! It had me the nanosecond I saw the surface of the water.

It's a masterfully done bit to add to the creep factor. My roommate bought it the other night, and we've been playing through it in turns. I have to agree, the creepy bit is the Sisters. Listen to the little things they say, and watch how they follow the Big Daddies... very much like and UNLIKE real little girls. My roommate wants to spare them all, but I want to go for the maximum power (which requires killing them). If you spare them, you gain a little power, but they return to "normal" little girls. If you harvest them, you gain more power, but they die. I don't know what effect this haves on the outcome of the game (or what Tenenbaum's promised "reward" for sparing the girls is), but it's an interesting ethical dilemma: would you really increase your power base at the expense of a little girl's life?

I honestly feel really bad for the little sisters, so I've spared them all. I'm told -- this is a minor spoiler, but it's important to know -- that you should either harvest them all or rescue them all, don't mix it up. I guess the ending changes on this.
I've never found the little sisters creepy, nor the Big Daddies, mostly because they just don't attack until you're ready. I like that.
I think one of the best parts of the story I've found (so far, spoilers if you haven't done NEPTUNE'S BOUNTY yet):
Early on, you come across a tape from a mom who's leaving the message for her daughter. She knows her daughter's been taken, but if she escaped and found the tape, the daughter was told to come to a certain room.
Later on, you find that room, unlock it, and inside is just a really sad scene. A mom and dad lying in each other's arms, dead with pills scattered about, the picture of their daughter nearby, and another message about how they saw their daughter, now transformed into a little sister. It was kinda heartbreaking, but then I had to go burn more stuff.

I am also sparing all of them - I just can't kill them since they don't attack me - anyway I think you get a reward per level, I got one in Neptune's Bounty and one in Arcadia, 200 Adam, a plasmid/tonic, and some bullets each. (I am still in Arcadia trying to find a rose specimen)

There actually is a bit of a reward at the end if you spare them all, or so I've heard. Really all in how the game actually ends.
Not that I've seen it happen while someone is playing. Everyone I've seen play it have killed at least one or two of the Little Sisters, so they don't get that one ending and instead get another.

I've just finished it and like I've said before I saved all the Little Sisters, and it did have quite an important impact on the way the game played out from a point on, including the ending sequence; I can only say it made me feel warm and fuzzy on the inside.

How does a Steam Powered Minigun differentiate between targets? I wasn't aware boiling water could make allegiances.
